need advice for front suspension overhaul on 1976 CB750 K
« on: May 08, 2008, 05:18:52 PM »
Greetings everyone,

My 1976 CB750 K is due for a front suspension overhaul. Oil doesn't seem to leak (in fact, I think it doesn't), but I find the suspension to be very soft when I push on it sitting on the bike. (bike at rest, leaning on the suspension, and pushing on it) Plus, when I'm riding, it feels "bumpy" a lot. I mean, every little bump I it, I feel like to only suspension I have is the front tire. It gets a little scary on high speed corners, as you can imagine. :)

If I was to order parts through eBay, what would you recommend?

I presume, since the tubes are good:

1) seals, as they are probably not that expensive?
2) springs?

Any other thoughts?

Thanks in advance for your help and considerable knowledge, as always.

Nest regards,

Paul

Have you checked the level of the fork oil?

I must admit I didn't. But then again, that could explain why it's a bit bumpy. But the extreme softness while in "compression" mode? Wouldn't that be "spring" related?

Hi all,

Today, I finally found some time to look into this. First, I purged the old oil inside both fron tubes. Then added some fresh 10W30 and purged them again real good. Now, I added just what it says in the Clymer manual: 7.0 - 7.3 oz in each fork.

I went for a test ride. The thing was HARD as hell, worst than before. It really felt like the only suspension I had was the fron tire! I got back home and squirted 2 good shots off each tube and went again for a test ride. It's still really stiff. At rest, I could feel it wasn't quite right. I then squirted 2 more good shots off each tube. Now, it begins to feel smooth again, but it just isn't optimal.

Question: how much oil do you guys add when you fill each tube?

Thanks in advance for your help,

Paul
