Hello everyone!
« on: May 10, 2008, 02:46:50 PM »
Just wanted to say hi! After a few (ok 15!) years  I've finally decided to try and get my '78 550 k3 back on the road and think I may need some help - this seemed a good place to start. I don't want a show machine - it would be good just to get it running again! I didn't actually ride it much after part exing my Suzuki for it in about 1981 as a family (and a car)came along. Now the kids are grown its time for me to have some fun so I've been for a track day and now want to get back on the k3. It has been serviced and mot'd a few times since going in to hibernation but after a good clean and oil and filter change didnt want to run, petrol was pouring out from the carb pipes underneath but not getting to the plugs, any ideas anyone?

is it pour out of the overflow hoses ? if so sounds like stuck float tap on suspect carb bowl with a screwdriver handle. you might even have some clogged jets

Yes it seems to be coming out of the overflow hoses - all of them! Looks like a remove and dismantle carbs job then. Tried tapping the outer ones but no good.

Hi Chris.

"petrol" eh?

You must be in the UK (or a lost Brit in the US...)

If all four are leaking from the overflows, it's more serious than just a bit of debris blocking the float valve. If the petrol has been standing in the carbs for a while, they are probably well varnished inside.

Take 'em off, strip 'em down and clean thoroughly. Search the forums as it's a common problem. There's loads of advice.

If you are indeed in the UK, pop over to www.honda-sohc.co.uk and join us there!
