crankshaft/rotor question
« on: April 11, 2005, 08:29:08 AM »
I'm in the middle of restoring my CB750K3 (repaint everything, relace wheels, engine rebuild, transmission rebuild, etc. etc.).  More specifically, i'm in the middle of rebuilding the engine.  In the process of getting into the bottom half of the engine, my manual says to remove the alternator rotor.  There's a bolt on the end of the crankshaft holding the rotor on that i can't seem to get off.  I haven't had a chance yet to have a friend hold the bolt on the other end of the crankshaft while i turn the one on the rotor side.  This seems about the only way to keep that thing from spinning while i crank on it.  That bolt's not threading backwords for some reason is it?  The manual mentions a rotor puller.  Is this necessary?  Any body have any helpful hints about getting the rotor off?

thanks a bunch - casey g

Also, unless you are servicing the starter clutch then you don't really need to remove it for even a major engine overhaul.

Chung,

basically, the only thing other than rebuilding the top half of the engine that i want to do is to figure out why 4th gear is popping out above 4500 RPM.  I'm assuming it's because the dogs (??) are worn down.  At least that's what i've read on here.  So, in order to do this, i shouldn't have to remove the rotor?

I agree- don't remove it unless the starter clutch is not working properly.
