iSoldIt
« on: May 12, 2008, 01:00:48 PM »
Has anyone ever used one of those "ISoldIt" stores that list, pack, and ship your items for you.  I hate dealing with packing and shipping, but they charge something like 30-40% of the sales price for their services.  Seems kind of high.  Are there any cheaper alternatives that any of you have used?

I once sold 4 stock wheels and tires from a new car of mine through them because I just wanted the things out of my garage and didn't want to deal with it.

I'm just curious to get people's opinions on services like this.

look for an independent listing agent in your area.  the rates are bound to be cheaper than the big guys.  or just list it yourself- i always thought those things where for people who don't have internet and a digital camera, or enough computer/photo skills to make an attractive auction- in which case 30% is reasonable.

watcha sellin?

Some Yamaha XJ550 Seca stuff.  I bought the Seca a while back for $600 and it came with an extra motor, wheels, forks, carbs, plastic, etc.  I got the bike running and now I know I don't need the spares, so I'm going to clean the garage a bit.  If you have a Seca frame, I've got most of the rest for you.  Step right up!

cut and paste that onto your local craigslist

clean the garage, sell your spares, maybe even make a friend.  ISOLDit can GoSuckIT.

EDIT: include pics in your CL post.  you wont get as much as you might on ebay but i doubt you will get 30 - 40% less if you list them well with good pics.

Listing items on eBay is simple enough.  If you don't like packing stuff, the UPS Stores do a good if not cheap job of packing.  And they can ship it for you at the same time.

It's not cheap - I paid $20+ to have my alloy fuel tank packed up for my flight home (I bought it while out of town).  But, if you don't have boxes or packing material, it's sometimes the only way to go.

Start saving your newspapers and packing materials you receive in the mail.

If you get desperate, some large bricks-and-mortar stores also have websites for ordering, and cheap/free shipping.  Buy some stuff online, unpack it, return the items at the local store and you have cheap/free boxes.

Also keep your eyes on Craigslist in your local area for people getting rid of moving boxes.
