Center Stand... How do you install one?
« on: May 10, 2008, 01:27:02 PM »
I just bought a 71 Cb 500 (first bike). It is set up as a cafe racer and it has a side stand. I was thinking of installing a center stand for a more vintage look. How hard would it be to install?  What model bikes would have one that will fit? there is one on ebay form a 78 550 would it fit?
By the way awsome site Ihave learn a lot about my bike in just a weeks of reading. (but my productivity at work has dropped ;D)

You should have a look underneith the bike to see if the clamp brackets are still in place for the center stand. If the stand has been removed, than maybe the remover cut off the brackets too. Might be some pics on here somewhere but basically they look like two brackets with about a one inch hole in them and they are sloted to work as a clamp.

If you have the brackets then it's a simple matter of getting all the hardware to bolt it on... and the center stand itself.

If the brackets are gone.... well, we will worry about that when you find out if they are there or not.

Are the the same place were the front peg bolt to? bracket right behind the engine that has a open slot facing down with bolt running through it and the foot pegs are on either end.

Not if you don't planning on working on the bike,   oh I don't know,
adjusting chain, changing oil,  replacing tires........   Nah, you don't
need it! :P

i got one on line and just use it when i have to work on the bike. Its really easy to place the center stand in place then slide the rod through while the bike is on the side stand. stand the bike upright and presto. If you do it this way you dont need the spring or the D shape bracket/holder.
