K1 Rat Bike getting close.................
« on: August 19, 2005, 03:33:53 AM »
Well now i've got the 'net back up, I thought I'd share some pics with you guys, just to show that I haven't been fibbing about it's lightning (well for me....) progress!

Here you go men, and if anyones got a set of K1 seat hinges and a seat latch for a poor old gun-shy Aussie, let me know, it's hard to relax in the saddle when I'm holding it on with my butt! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

My god Terry, your rat makes mine look bad.
At least you have switches & controls, I have toggle switches wherever I can put them.
Like your paint, mine's only matt black with some pretty hideous skulls.

G'Day Dave, yeah, it's getting less and less "Ratty" as time goes by, in fact it'll eventually get a full cosmetic resto, but not until I've had one summer cruising with it, I don't want to spend the coming Spring/Summer in my garage, ha ha! Send me a pic of yours mate, it sounds, er, interesting! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Interesting is a good word for it but it loves me.
I've still got a few more things to bodgy up then I'll see if I can get a photo without cracking the lens.

Love that look Terry.  Is that stock rear wheel/ fender.  Kinda looks like you got some extra space back there.  Almost like dirt-bike shocks or something.  Must ride real nice (other than holding on with your knes).

Thanks guys, well Mike, the thing is loud, the baffles have long since gone the way of the Dodo, but i'll machine up some new ones, (maybe like "Supertrapp" endcaps, but with a baffle tube)  I've got a 16 inch rear wheel on it that I really like, but the chrome is screwed, (anyone got a better one?) I've got a lowering kit, but the shocks run too close to the chain with them in place, so I'll have to try some different shocks which is a shame, because those old S&W's are real nice. I've got some Koni's to rebuild so I might put them on perhaps?

The forks are in for a little "tweaking" because they're actually all Suzuki GS750 apart from the K0-K2 sliders (they work fine, but are a little firm) and I'm gonna change the front fender to a CB750F1 item and install the dual disc brake setup with the braided lines this weekend, someone wanted to buy them from me, but I lost contact with whoever it was, so I'll put them to good use instead. All in all, it's coming along nicely, but I'm keen to finish it off so I can start on my racer project, woohoo! Too wet to mow the lawn Dave, but Spring is just around the corner............. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Not to disappoint you but I wouldn't call that "rat".. :D It's too clean, pretty and in good shape. It looks good though!

when you are ready to take it out...put a carton of natural yoghurt all over it about a week before, it'll have nice green and grey fluff on it traditional rat look, ::) and rent some old mad max movies.

There should also be at least one, preferably more, unteathered wires.  Extra points for ragged ends and electrical tape connectors :)
