Couple of questions:Fork mount speedo info/Steering damper
« on: October 01, 2009, 11:05:23 AM »
Hey everyone.
I hope I am not screwing up protocol as I searched for these on here.
I was have trouble narrowing down the info.

I want to mount a fork leg speedo to my 74 CB 550.
1. Where are you sourcing the small speedo's?
2. What cable did everyone use?.....any tips, sources for a premanufactured one?....Or how I go about making a reliable & good looking one myself.

Steering damper:
1. I find the simple ones on ebay but if anyone has a better source please chime in.
2. What are people using for the frame mount?....any links to premanufactured clamps or dimension's to machine one.
3. I see two options on the fork....The aluminum clamp on the fork leg....or....mounting to the bottom of the triple clamp.
Preferences?...Pros & Cons?

Thanks in advance folks.
I already appreciate this place.
Here is my bike.

First off ......nice bike

I just removed a steering damper from my 1973 750K3. I will try to take some pictures of the mounts. Mine is a simple bolt on but at the moment I can't picture in my head how it was mounted.  Personally, I haven't noticed a difference in handling, even up to 85-90mph, but at the same time, I am not as aggressive in the corners as some. I did notice that while it was on, I lost a fair bit of my turning radius (made it a pain in the ass to turn it around in the garage)

CycleX used to have a small speedo that mounts to the lower right fork leg.

I don't see it on their website any more but I would send them an email in case.

Speedo in pic is from Drag Specialties, they probably still have, just need the right ratio (think there is only 2)

 Damper:
Frame on reinforced part is 1.25 inches, forks are 35mm or 1.378, allow more room if powdercoated.

Thanks for the quick responses!

That speedo is probably the ticket, I am writing them this morning.

As for the damper:
I don't have an issue with the dimensions of the frame or fork.(I own a small machine shop)
I am just curious of the orientation of the tapped hole....and the appearance of the "frame" clamp.

I have a Bella corse damper mounted to my thruxton and it has a cast aluminum affair with a very strange shape.
I am unsure if he makes them or sources them from somewhere.
Would be great to see pics of others mounting.
Thanks for the help it is greatly apreciated.

Btw: I have found a properly setup suspension and a damper makes a world of difference. Having had a few tank slappers before. I don't think
y turning radius will be affected if I source a damper with enough travel.
