New Indiana Jones Movie
« on: June 05, 2008, 03:40:50 PM »

Don't know who else likes the Indiana Jones movies, but I do and I just got home from seeing the new one. 8) I've got all the others and , even though we've stopped jumping up and buying every single movie that we have gone to see, THIS one's gonna be one I'm gonna have to get. ;) I think this one's the best. :)

I and my 4 boys loved the new movie.  We all want to see it again because we know there are things we missed.  My boys are Indi crazy what with collecting ALL of the Lego sets, stuff from Burger King (fry boxes, bags, drink cups, burger wrappers) and the Lego video game.  I like the subtle jabs about his age, profession and nods to the first movies.  Classic.

Warning!! Spoilers:

I thought it was pretty good but there was ALOT of things that just didn't make sense. First obvious one being, how is it that you need one of the crystal skulls to get into the room where all 13 aliens skulls are? How did someone take one out if you need a skull to get in in the first place? How did the Russian people get down to where Indie and the other people were if the steps to get down slid into the wall?

Also, I find it annoying that these aliens supposedly came down to teach the Mayans and then leave them in peace, then they explain how the city of gold isn't about gold at all, but its about knowledge and yada yada, so how come the aliens are violent and just kill the bad guys off at the end? Where is this 'knowledge'??? Were the aliens just mad someone took his head, and whoever returned it would just be killed in retribution?

Why couldn't they make the ending leaving you with happiness and joy rather then aliens killing people?

I think the aliens put their heads on the indentation to get in.....so put the skull there and in you go...like a fingerprint reader...

Previously during the boat down the waterfall scene...the Russians are rappeling down a cliff....so maybe they rappeled down the missing stairs too...

I think in the end...the knowlege she asked for was just too much... ;)

+1  She was greedy about it and kinda a #$%* (although hot)

Funny.  My wife thought it was boring and a waste of time / money.  I thought it was a good flick but I wouldn't put it about the other 3.  I did like the way the progression of religious topics in each film ended with the idea of religion as a means to process things that are not completely understood.

Also, Harrison Ford can still throw a punch that would knock most men down.  He's how old and can hold his own in a fight (at least in the movies).  That's cool.  Most older guys trying to do action movies just aren't convincing.

To each his own, I really liked the movie and will probably add a copy of it to the other 3 Indy Jones movies. I especially liked the part where they came out of that dive and there were several Indian Chiefs, some Harleys and a Triumph, that I remember for sure (I was suddenly very busy trying to catch the details of ALL of those bikes).  ::) ::) ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D ;D 8) 8) 8) 8) ;) ;) ;) ;) :) :) :) :)

Speaking of the bikes, the Harley that the kid rode was a modern bike made to look like a '50's bike.  I spotted the belt drive, the rocker covers are Twin Cam/Evo and the controls look just like my '04 Sportster.  Nice try Spielberg.  But I figured they needed a modern bike for the riding sequences.

You didn't mention surviving a nuclear blast in a refrigerator.  You can't over-analyze a movie like this one.  A lot of it was a parody of itself, just meant to be fun, which it was.  You are just supposed to sit back and go for a ride.  Nice to see Ford is in pretty good shape and still can move around.  Reassuring to the rest of us geezers.

Not that up that much on the Harleys, but I DID think that was a bit peppy running and sounding for an old one. ;D

Yeah, I'm agreeing with you. I went, expecting to see (what I thought would be) a great movie and I was not disappointed. It was a movie! What can I say?  :) I've enjoyed Harrison Ford in his previous movies and I also enjoyed him in this one. ;)

It was great fun Bill, totally unbelievable of course, but if anyone is gonna go see a movie like that expecting everything to be technically correct, they're not too bright. I enjoyed it for what it was, a "tour de force" of noise and action, with a little humor thrown in for good effect! ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Wat?! I r smart!  :D

Actually, I really wasn't expecting the movie to be accurate or believable in anyway, I was just disappointed about the ending mostly, and it just had a few quirks about some other parts that just were to far fetched for my taste, but ur all right! Just sit back and enjoy. I DID forget about the nuclur (Dubya style) blast bit, was quite funny tbh :D

I enjoyed it too. Nice that they incorporated throw-backs to his dad and Marcus. It was a bit too 'computer special effect-y' perhaps....

I thought it was pretty good, I loved the bike (would have been cooler if they had rescued an authentic old bike for the movie) and the car chase, and it's refreshing to know that Harrison Ford is still a BAMF.

Too bad the ending sucked ass and Shia is the biggest dork in the universe, both in the movie and in real life. The real ending with the hat was hilarious.

aw man! why did I read this before going to see it?

Bill, modify your first entry to read "the following posts will spoil some of the movie for you, in general, the members who replied enjoyed the movie and recommend going to see it, read no further. The movie has some flaws, as do all, but the good point definitely out weigh the bad"

also, start a poll

Indiana Jones And the Kingdom Of the Crystal Skull

highly recommended []

worth going to see []

if you have time to kill []

don't waste your time []

2 hours and 3 min of my life I will never get back []

Sorry about spoiling it for you, WBC (Weird Beard Canuck) and I DID go ahead and make a poll for it just as you suggested AND used the options that you ALSO suggested.
