My Dell laptop has a trojan named Cutwail that I cannot get rid of.  McAfee finds it and says it is deleted, but it is always back.  Same thing with the Microsoft malicious software scanner.  I'd like to catch up with whoever wrote that damn thing.

the ms scanner is not really worth much. I used it for a while when it first came out about 3 years ago or so and it was decent then, of course ms adds bloat and tries to do to much and then there are too many cracks.

As a general rule - I run ALWAYS minimum of 2 partitions where 1 is for system (windows) only, and other for data storage, etc. Then usually once a year i just reformat the system partition and run Kaspersky - never a problem.
