Oil reservoir cap leak

1976 CB750f
My oil reservoir is leaking out the cap. 

What's the best way to fix this problem?  I'd rather not replace the cap.

Is there a way to replace or recondition that seal?

It's just cork as I recall, you could just try cutting a new one out of cork gasket material from an auto supplier.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

my 75 750F has a screw in cap/dipstick

You should just replace the cork washer or is there too much oil ?? :)

You should be able to run the motor without the cap installed, and not have anything come flying out.

There's not too much oil.  I just did an oil change ~ 500 miles age and it's sitting 2/3 full.

i'd be replacing that tire too.........kind of cracked isnt it?

Or just sell that 750K and get a 750F ;)
It is the F.  The F is blue and the identity crisis is kinda grayish orange.



U guys are funny.  :D I ask about the oil reservoir and get 3 comments about my tire.

Don't worry, a new tire should come in tomorrow.  ;)

Was going to say thats a K tank not an F, and  suggest a frame number check

It should come back as a 1976 CB750(something).  The second part of the engine number is 244....  I think that's a 1976 engine.

I thought I had the differences between F and K figured out, but I was wrong. :) Someday I'll be able to tell the 2 apart. ;)

I've got 2 K models!  Thanx guys!!!

EDIT: I'm willing to bet that's not a tank to a CB750.  I've read the CB750 tanks hold 4.75 gallons.  Mine only holds 4.49.

ger, I put 3 quarts in my K1. That put the oil level halfway up the marked section of the dipstick, after I've run the engine for a bit.

Thanx, Kevin!  Mine took a solid 4.  Did you remember to 'kick it' a couple of times during the oil change to get the trapped oil out?

Ger a solid 4 is way too much oil. Usually after an oil change 3 quarts is more than enough. You have way too much oil in your bike. Drain now before you blow some more oil seals all over your engine. No joke!

Your gas tank is a 750 tank - 4.49 gallons is plenty  ;) It should last a good 150+ miles with reserve. (depending on tuned state of your bike of course).

I did have a minor oil leak when I started the engine and lost, what I thought was only a tiny bit, oil.  I didn't match up the filter cover correctly and it didn't sit flush to the engine.

My stick reading's sitting a little above halfway...  The tube in back is old, a little squashed by the ties attaching it to the frame, but no kinks or plugs that I can see.  It'll have to wait until next week for me to pull the tube and inspect it.  Getting ready to play weekend warrior.  ;D

The current seal on the cap is not good and needs replacing ASAP.  As a minor, quick fix, I turned the seal around so the indentation on is on the other side.

All the sites that I read the specs about the 750 on said the tank was 4.75.  On atleast 4 different sites.  Maybe they're talking about a different year....
