Neutral light - possessed?
« on: May 15, 2008, 12:49:34 AM »
Is my neutral light (on the 750) possessed? It has been flashing on in the change from 4th to 5th  :o
Anyone else encountered this?
Peter.

It may well be possessed, or more likely it's just showing its age! Mine goes through this from time to time too but still finds the neutral detent so I just accept this as one of those little intricacies!!

Keep that spare switch within arms length

It's definitely possessed Pete, take it to your nearest Catholic church and give it a wash in holy water while screaming "Out Demons of old age, out!" Make sure you have someone take a small mpeg, and post it here, ok? ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Yeh, my gearbox works fine and neutral is dead easy to get too - these little intricacies are just part of the fun eh. I certainly aren't stressing about it.  ;D

I quite agree!

On a more serious note, how's the condition of the neutral switch wire? Mine was chafed a bit where the wire makes the sharp turn to go under the engine to reach the switch. The light would flicker a bit now and then, and the chafed spot in the wire jacket wasn't very obvious...

My 1976 750K's light stays on while the key's on.  It just becomes brighter when I actually do hit neutral.  :D

I've got a K6 like that!

When in "real" neutral, the lamp is so bright that it "leaks" into the oil light next door. Frightening at night...

I'll check that out Jonsey.
But the light is quite strong and stable in normal neutral, and even quite a strong flash on the change from 4th to 5th. If it was a chaffed wire I would expect it to do it intermittently with a flicker like yours.
Next time I take it out (and it won't be this weekend - it's pisatively possing down) I must check to see if the light comes on in a normal change from 1st to 2nd - haven't noticed it, but I s'pose it does. When it first did it from 4th to 5th it really caught my eye. Like WTF ???
Oh well, one of the joys.........doesn't detract from the enjoyment and smile per mile.
Peter. ;D

Neutral lights are for poofs anyway Pete, real men can find neutral with they're eyes closed! ;D

;D ;D Agreed Terry (said in very deep butch voice, and spitting on the ground). I don't normally look when I'm finding neutral anyway, too busy checking out the babes who have gathered around me when I pull up (spitting on ground again) ;D
