CB400f Aftermarket Petcock
« on: May 16, 2008, 04:48:40 PM »
I am rebuilding my '77 CB400f.  It was bruised up enough that I am not picky about replacing some parts with newer, cheaper, more effective aftermarket parts if they don't alter the look of the bike.  I am looking to replace the petcock and I see many new generic ones cheap on ebay.  Could anyone give me sizes or specs that I would need so that an aftermarket one will fit?  Can the gas come from the bottom, or does it have to come from the side like the stock ones?  Measurements please!   Thanks.

Can't you just measure the one you have?

The 350F petcocks are held on with two screws.... not held on with a pipe fitting which is what I think you're wondering  ???

Not sure, but I think the 400F ones are the same, in which case you need a direct replacement or a reproduction replica.

Z1 Enterprises has a lot of petcock stuff including adapters to fit a replacement.

http://www.z1enterprises.com/detail.aspx?ID=1745

It didn't look like they had any rebuild kits for the stock unit.  The parts list I have isn't very clear but it looks like the petcock has a threaded section on the body rather than mounting with screws as was mentioned.  There are only two different parts listed for the petcock.  One is a body kit and the other is a strainer kit.  It looks like the strainer kit can be had for about $19 and the body kit for about $27 online.  The entire assembly is about $53.  I looked the prices up at http://www.servicehonda.com .

I'll probably need the strainer kit as my petcock is functioning in the Reserve mode when turned to either of the On or Reserve settings.   :-\
