This thread has been very motivational to me as I have just picked up a cb360 and am very anxious to start the build.  Want to get the mechanical all sorted before I start on frame and body mods, but thanks for the inspiration.

Cheers.

Retro, I am glad it is an inspiration to some, thanks for the kind words.

StrongPerf, for some reason I don't think your 550 will get much lovin now...new toys always get priority.  Be safe on those things, I rode a zx6 once and that was a quick bike, I can only imagine how fast it's daddy is.

Hey Fuzzy, i just read back through the posts and saw your post there.  If you still have the petcock, I do need one.  Let me know how much you want for it and I will give you an answer.

thanks again all.

This may be a really dumb question, but where would I go buy shims to install for the top bearing on the forks?  I'm guessing like a machine shop or something like that, but I could be completely wrong. Thanks for the help!

You no longer need to. All Ball Racing has provided some very helpful assistance in combining two bearings to fit our old CB’s.

Here are the part numbers:

99-3506/33-1006 (30-48-15)
99-3511/33-1006 (26-48.5-15)

The bearing section from the 99-3506 is used with the race of 99-3511 achieving an assembly of (30-48.5-15).
This is the current bearing setup that I’m using and the fit is perfect.
You end up with a 48.5mm race that fits the head tube and a 30mm ID that fits the modern steer tube.

Picture of this assembly in my 550

Squirely,
Help me out here man, I have the narrow glide hub (just like yours) but can not source the rim. What did you use, regular Sporster aluminum rim?
Thanks.

Sorry stevevo8, I have no idea what parts make up a 400, I am sure someone may chime in and answer if you ask around

Raymond, I used an aluminum did rim off ebay.  It was you basic replacment wheel for a harley (19x2.5" with 40 spokes).  I am sure you could also use just the stock steel harly rim that comes on a narrow glide if you wanted to. I will try to find a similar rim to the one I used on ebay and post a link.  There was a guy selling a lot of of DID aluminum rims for 60 bucks each brand new, I will let you know if he still has any.

Hope this helps

Steve

The CB400 uses the same All Balls RAcing bearing set as the 550 so the bearing combination listed above would allow you to use a modern forkset with 30mm stear tube. What I don't know for sure is the steer tube length. That you would have to measure and then confirm it with the forks you are considering using.

Sorry Kronus, most of my parts were purchased through ebay, so I don't have any sort of part numbers or info on where to find such stuff.

On another note, just a quick picture of the beginings of a frenched in tail light.  Now if I can just bend a piece of smoked plexiglass to fit the curve, I might be happy.

Gonna! It already does.

Where did you get the tail light?
That could be the answer to me tail light issue too.

Thanks guys.   The taillight is a flexible led strip that I picked up off ebay.  If you search under 12volt flexible led you will find several.

I made a little resistor pack so it will operate as a tail light and a brake light.  If you don't want to make one, you can also find them on ebay. (http://s291.photobucket.com/albums/ll312/gaolbird/?action=view&current=48cmDualCircutvidAmber.flv)

Two flexible LED strips:  $10.00

Making a dual circuit resistor pack:  $1.00

Smoked plexiglass sheet:  $5.00

I would be happy to show how to make up a dual circuit converter.  I will try and make time to do a write up this weekend.

On another note.  As I have gained so much from this forum, I would like to give back.  I have some leftover parts that I would like to get rid of from the stock 550.  All parts are FREE (unless you feel like contributing a 6 pac or the like), and there are some good things left.  Unfortunatley, I do not want to ship, so local pickup is ideal.  Parts include but not limited to:

Pegs ( i think front and rear)
Frontend--forks, handle bars, brake, etc.
front and rear rims ( come with nasty tires)
Rear akront aluminum rim with 550 hub
Airbox and plenum
guages
exhaust down tubes.
Yada yada yada

Please, if anyone is clost to santa barbara, please come get this stuff.  Craigslist is next....

That tail light is awesome.  Some act as a stop signal and turn signals, all in the same strip.  (Maybe that's what you got... not sure.)  See pic...

Link to where one can buy them:
http://www.customdynamics.com/flex_led_array.htm

A heads up though... I don't think they are entirely legal to use as stand-alone signals.  I think they're only supposed to complement existing signals.  I don't mention this to discourage anyone - only to let you know so you don't go showing off while riding in front of a cop.  :)

But these are the perfect lights for a cafe.

Soichiro,

Why do you think the led combination lights are not legal as standalone signals?

Soichiro,

Why do you think the led combination lights are not legal as standalone signals?

Pretty sure the short answer is brake lights, turn signals and tail lights are required by the DOT. If you replaced yours with a part that doesn't have a DOT stamp, it's technically not street legal.

Ya, the led that I am using is not one with built in turn signals, it is just a regular led that I am regulating power to in order to make work as both brake and running light.

I have had several pm's regarding the 550 parts give away... before I answer all questions, I will take some pictures of the items I have so you can decide if they are worth your time to come get them.  (I don't want dissapointments even if they are free).  I will post pics asap.
