foot pounds .. pounds foot
« on: May 19, 2008, 05:51:31 AM »
Ok I know I'm not blind...  :-\ or maybe I am ... but for the life of me I can not find the torque values anywhere (particularly for the triple tree / fork clamp bolts... (12mm top, 14mm bottom) '75 cb750k5)

I've spent at well over an hour searching this forum, the faqs, the service manual, the clymers manual and google. .. I'd  expect it to be right up front all over the place and in my face but ..
I must be spelling it wrong or using the wrong words or something. ..

The Clymer manual calls for 13-17 Ft/lbs for both.

It's in the "Quick Reference" section in the front of the manual, under Frame Torques.

I get that bench blindness all the time when I'm working in the garage.  I have the amazing ability to "lose" the socket wrench that I just had in my hand ten seconds ago. ::)

I only use the torque specs for the head bolts or nuts. For the rest, I use my "inner" torque wrench. Everything tight but having into account the bolt and nut/thread material. If something is important to remain tight, use a spring nut or loctite instead of over-torqueing.

It is just a byproduct of my lazyness and to speed installation up. Never had any issue until now -knock on wood-

....I use my "inner" torque wrench. ......
Same here usually... but mine apparently needs to be calibrated.
