Detroit dude with a 550 checking in
« on: May 18, 2008, 11:22:14 AM »
Hello, looks like there are a couple Michigan-area people here...

I've just recently gotten into street bikes, and due to both my love of everything vintage and a rather tight wallet, I was led into looking at CB750's.  I looked at a couple that weren't anything to write home about, then found a craigslist ad for a seemingly nice '74 CB550 that had sat in a barn for approximately 20 years.  I was the first one to get to it, and couldn't be happier at the moment.  Needed some work, but now it's rideable and I'm really enjoying the experience.  It's fun, light, and just quick enough to get me in trouble.  It isn't anywhere near as terrifying as my '01 CR500 dirt bike, though!

I've since taken the crash bars off, and polished the rust off the rims.  Probably just going to take the lazy route and paint the rear spokes, they're about the only really unsightly portion on the bike.  Original airbox/air filter is back on, and after going through the carbs she runs like a champ.  I love having a kickstarter, too.  ;D
