1975 CB360 - Timing chain adjuster recall?
« on: May 08, 2008, 01:02:42 PM »
I just bought a 75 CB360 T, and I'm wondering about a recall I read about on the web. I can't find any details on it today, but I swear I saw it last week on some forums. There was a recall of the timing chain tensioner, and if serviced the engine will have a colon, ":" stamped on the VIN. I bought my bike yesterday and I notice there is no colon stamped.  Do you guys know anything about that recall?

Here are pics of my new (and first ever) bike.   ;D

The recall is to fit new parts. If chain isn't adjusted correctly its possible for the tensioner to break and lock up motor. The : dots are stamped into engine number, between the CB360E and the number, top and bottom of the dash mark, it looks like a division sign. If you have a 1975 it should already have the later (modified) parts
I found the print out of the original recall a couple of days ago, the actual numbers are,
CB360 & CB360G 1000001 to 1089642
CL360    1000001 to 1013033
Cb360T  2000001 to 2040600
CL360K1 2000001 to 2016592

Chad,

I own a '75 CL360 and performed the update several years ago.  My bike had not been modified (no : mark) and was starting to show wear at about 12,000 miles.

I have a copy of the original factory supplement covering the procedure as well as a list of required parts and numbers.  Let me know if you still need them and I'll email them to you.

Bill,
That'd be great.  I am chad[at]osisoft.com

I really appreciate it.  I'm actually adjusting the tensioner right now.

Ah those lovely wee CB360's, I rebuilt 2 of them, one an ex police bike which was a complete pig to work on and one I found under a huge pile of wood which was a honey of a bike.
The thing that always amazed me when rebuilding one of these was the fact that I could order brand new exhaust mufflers for them....unheard of today.
Happy riding on your bike..........Hush.
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!
