manifold boots for a 550K
« on: June 30, 2008, 11:33:36 AM »
Hello all. I have a 78550K and i used a 75 550K carbs and manifold and boots. the problem i am having is that when the bike is at idle it will not idle below 2k RPM. and it seams lean. i ran a test at idle by spraying carb cleaner on the manifold boots. 1 and 2 made the motor rpm higher and 3 and 4 did not. So i went to the Deler and tried to order new boots and they are no longer available. i don't want to buy used ones on e bay just in case i have the same problem. I also have the old 78 boots. My question is will the 78 boots fit on the 75 manifold and cabs? And my other question is is there anything new i can use like radiator hose that will fit and not suck air? also the timing is right and i am running pods and i re jetted the main jet to 110.
Thanks.

I have a 76 CB550K and I ordered the rubbers infront of and after the carbs from "David Silver Spares" (listed in seller FAQ), they just arrived today. Shipping was quick items are brand new in package OEM.

No, not properly.  Maybe can be forced with worm gear clamps (not recommended).

And my other question is is there anything new i can use like radiator hose that will fit and not suck air?
They can fix your vacuum leak until the fuel attacks the rubber.  However, the stock boots maintain an inner diameter to reduce turbulence.  Radiator hose won't do this.  So, you can expect some 'issues' with this method.

also the timing is right and i am running pods and i re jetted the main jet to 110.

My condolences.   ;D
Don't forget the vacuum sync the carbs after the vacuum leaks are fixed.
