KO Done - Thank you board members!!!
« on: May 20, 2008, 07:05:28 AM »
Just a note to say thanks to the Board for all the help and technical advise this past winter during my KO restore.  You may recall I bought this bike last July with 17,000 miles and it had not been run since 1990.  Took 3 weeks to get it running and once the engine perfomed well I thought a restore was a good idea.  Well, last night I took it out for the test ride and it felt unbelievably like a new ride.  The engine, suspension, wiring, etc. perfomed like a new smooth bike.  A great improvement over last fall.  I think the new front and rear wheel bearings, fork rebuild, chain / sprockets, tires and steering head packing helped a lot.  I am amazed at how nice it performed.  I think I will have to get it out again today to be sure I was not dreaming.  Thanks for the expertise guys!!!  I will post some good pictures soon.  ;D

Ha...yes, a waaaay cool wife.  As long as I get it out by the end of May.  I actually did the work in our heated patio.  The pic is moving it through the living room to the front door.  I will get some outside pics ASAP...

Congrats on the rebuild. That is a LOVELY color bike! Did you have the seat redone by some one local or was it always in that nice of shape?

Very nice job Johnie,....looks great.

Now I know the seats are valuable and you want to keep it in good shape ...but sitting on the tank while you ride is going a bit too far...no?    ;D

Yes, that tank trim was not available even from Yamiya when I was looking.  Sandcast Bob on this board saw my need and gave me a nice deal on the OEM trim.  I will keep my eyes open for my next project...Hmmm

I was pretty picky of the seat as that really needs to look nice next to all the new paint and chrome.  I bought the KO seat from Yamiya after talking to some board members here that had the Yamiya seat.  They assured me it was top quality and they were right.  It sure adds to that new and fresh look.  Very happy with it and everything I got from Yamiya...

Johnie,

The bike looks great! Now you need to take some large full shots of all sides of the bike!

Cheers, Phil

P.S. And what is WRONG with bikes in the living room??? This is my 1959 R26 doing double duty as Object d'art and Christmas tree!!  ;D

John came over yesterday to show me the bike. I wish you all could see this bike in person. It is truly stunning. He has a wonderful attention to detail and has gone through great lengths to make the bike as correct/original as possible.

He was also nice enough to let me sit on it. Sure is bigger than the 350!

Nice! I always like to see a rider sitting on a bike. Gives it some perspective. Amazing bike!!

So John how many hours did it take do you reckon? I wont even guess at the cost!

cheers
