Hi from Florence Ala
« on: May 20, 2008, 02:32:51 PM »
Hi guys, Ive been lurking around for weeks, (evesdropping mostly) and have made this my first stop on the web.
A few weeks ago I was able to pick up a CB750 for $200 (although I'm not sure  of the  model) After cleaning the carbs and fixing an electrical issue, I had her running but I realized she needed a set of points. I ordered some from a local dealer but they were the wrong ones. I went to another dealer and got the same points. there was no way to make them work. I am thinking about replacing them with an electronic ignition but I'm not sure it Will work. Has anyone tried this modification? What do I have to replace? Ive been told it is a simple swap but the person who told me had never actually done the swap. Also does anyone have an airbox?

Welcome white sheep. You might want to search the forums for opinions, etc. about electronic ignitions. There are many, many threads dedicated to electronic ignitions. There are several off the shelf kits to choose from. As for the airbox, there is a separate forum for parts wanted. Also, ebay may be your friend, or it might just be cheaper and easier to pick up a set of pods.

Thanks Burmashave, I ordered an electronic ignition, as well as a set of coils. I found someone with a complete parts bike I may be able to pick up so I may have her on the road soon. Ill keep my fingers crossed.

We do have mild winters, but we make up for it in the summer. its June first 9:30 am and already 73 degrees. Cant wait till summer is officially here :-\

The parts bike I found wasent for sale as I had been told so I will continue looking.
I was out riding yesterday and saw an early 750 four (less one logo) It had an aftermarket paint job and it was a real eye catcher. I wasent able to locate it when I came back through but I will keep my eye out for it. I seldom see bikes like that  in my area.
