Hush is an East Coaster. Out here in the West of New Zealand it is known as a Rattle Can and a Spray Can.

We on the East Coast call these cans of paint "cultural learning devices for retarded artists with no brains or regard for other peoples property".
You can see their work on your neighbours fence, the corner dairy and many electrical power boxes.

I made a bit of an error in doing my bog job and it's costing me time in finishing.
I had some two part bog I use on the hull of my Haines Hunter when Jaffa prangs the boat onto the trailer.
So thinking it would be great stuff to do my bike with too I mixed some up, takes like 2 days to harden unfortunately and you can't sand it until it is like rock, at that stage you need a dremil or pneumatic drill to remove it.
Oh well we live and learn. ;D
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Dear diary: Bog finally hardened and effect is quite good on the front guard, sprayed undercoat on (used white to see the effect) and did the siren horn as well.
Have yet to get the balls to attempt the tank, think it will take a while so will wait for a few days off to tackle that.
Had a wee problem with the bikes idle this week but did the "Ouch" test on the pipes and found number 3 was cold as.
Remembering that Jaffa did a small repair on that plug lead for me I had a closer look and sure enough the lead was not attached to the plug cap!
Gonna put some lemon juice in her scooters gas tank for that! ;D
Most excited that I can finally get new front tire this week and maybe pay the govt to make her a legal road user again, we'll see as I also need to buy helmet or I'll be stuck wearing Jaffas and that is just too scary to think about!!!!

Dear diary: not much work on the bike happening, have been sussing out a new front tyre for it, old tyre is a 350 H 19 which is the correct one in the old size but finding a new one is getting tricky, closest I can find is Bridgestone 110/90/19 does that sound right to anyone? (that is if anyone reads these except me) ;D
Have undercoated and then done one top coat of "rattle can" (love them American slang words eh) glossy white on the front guard, looks OK too.
Second coat tomorrow and then another next day, might even clear coat for a final effect.
Why does work always get in the way of my fun?
Bought a new helmet today off auction site, then found one I like better locally grrrrr, might re-auction new helmet and buy the other we'll see. ;D

Good to hear your making progress mate.
Sorry cant help you with the tyre question, but the helmet problem could be different..
Do either of your new lids look the same/similar to the lids used by the cops when your bike was in service? If you can afford to keep both of them make one look like a cops lid of the period and you could use that when you show your bike (you know you want to hehe)
Someone else has said they have a police bike that gets hired for TV work, may be a little bit of an earner for you when your done.

Hi Rick ... our local Honda Centre was good at sourcing period style tyres for both my CBX4000F and the CB350F. Their computer screen brings up pictures of the tyres as well for you to choose from. Their first question is how much do you want to spend on the tyres as they range hugely in price from the Asian tyres thru to the European brands. They only stock modern and off road tyres in their shops now and all others are sourced to requirements.

Dear diary: not much happening on the bike at the moment, too cold in da shed! ;D
But am doing some painting on bits and pieces, my son is teaching me how to "bog" and paint.
Seems all those car experiences he had as a teenager were not a total waste of time. :D

Actually I kinda like having a few bike bits in the house and Jaffa was at work so I got to use the warmth of the lounge to bake the paint he he. ;D
I've run out of "safe" n "easy" things to paint (that funny horn thing is the siren horn) so now I gotta bite the bullet and take the petrol tank off for a scratchup.
My son says it shouldn't be a problem (wants to use etching undercoat what ever that is) and his mates compressor, as I have the real deal high impact paint.
Actually if he is gonna do that I might just slip the forks back off and do them as well cos they scratched up something shocking while I was playing with the front disks.

Etch primer is good stuff, there are two basic types, acid etch and vinyl etch.
Careful with the acid etch especially, it will blister the paint already on the tank if the two types of paint arent compatible.
That stuff will stick to ANYTHING so make sure you cover anything you dont want to ruin......

Dear diary: have finally got up the nerve to strip the tank and wouldn't you know it I find something i don't like.
Spots, lots and lots of little spots (sounds like a kids story book!) they are everywhere on the top surface of the tank, not on the sides or the underneath just the very top surface?
I'm praying they are not rust holes coming through from the inside  :'( other wise I'm gonna kick myself for not just leaving the tank as it was.
They look like iron faults or something, (didn't something similar sink the Titanic?)the more I sand the darker they get and all the steel around them is shiny bright??
Ah well onward and upward. :(

Like i said in your other post hush, these look like a little surface rust to me.
Probably due to a thin coat of a cheap primer in the first place

Don't paint over it without neutralising and killing it Rick. You can get the following at your Bunnings Store, Tergo Rust Kill, Evaporust and a range of Dulux products. There were often cases where poor primer coats were originally used. You can see on some old tanks lines like snail trails in the paintwork forming as time goes by.

the titanic "kissed"a huge floating mountain of ice, that cracked her open...
so,as long as you don't ride full speed into the freezer at home, your tank will be spared from such a disaster.. ;D ;D

Dear diary: Today we have a little progress, the rust definately as Troppo guessed is surface rust poking out through clearcoat.
Am grinding old paint off with Jaffa's orbital "mouse" sander which sure beats hand sanding.
Death awaits if I cooze it for her though!
I dropped the front tyre into the local Suzuki dealer after discussing a price for a Bridgestone 100/110/19 at $140 plus fitting.
5 days later and hearing nothing from them (even though they were supplied my number) I dropped in and there is my front wheel still where I left it still with old tyre on it!!! >:(
Apparently they couldn't supply the discussed tyre but would I like a Battlax at $210 plus $25 fitting? ???
Hey even if it was the buy of the century I would have said no after that service!! >:(
So I rang the Honda dealers, even though they are in another town and they can get me overnight a Metzler ME33 350 H 19 which is exactly the tyre that is on the rim now.
At $195 plus $17 fitting I am more than happy to stick with the Honda shop offer. ;D
A mate at work (most of the Corrections Officers at my prison ride motorbikes even the girls) tells me that for $45 a year I can join the Classic (pre 1980) Motorcycle Club and membership gets me 10% discount at said Honda shop so all good.
Bike is going to take a little longer to get on the road than first thought but hey it'll all be worth it in the end and if I do everything right the first time I should have a decent rideable machine come the spring/summer. ;D
Thanks for the laugh Martino.........

Good to hear things are working out with the paint mate.
Sounds to me the bike shop was trying to pull a fast one on you, glad you got a good deal in the end, sounds like that honda shop may be worth sticking with, if they get to know you they might swing a few deals your way...

Dear diary: Well swings and round abouts this week, missed out on a decent set of pipes for the bike on Ebay being sold by one of the SOHC members too.....missed the end of auction due to internet crash caused by massive storm over most of NZ..Oh well.
On the bright side the Honda guys came through for me on my front tire (Metzler) , $215 well spent and rushed home to mount it on bike, got carried away and slapped on front guard and discs as well.
Honda shop guys are all bike mad, funny as hell watching them try to guess the age/model of my bike just from the Comstar wheel.
You could see them as they passed the wheel at the counter, their brains calculating and estimating ha ha.
One good thing also, a staffer is a member of the Japanese Classic Motorcycle Club and though it's mainly CB750's I would be more than welcome.
Promised to ride the bike over to show them once it's on the road.

Dear diary: major progress today, Jaffa bullied me into bidding on some pipes on Ebay and I got them for $165 US which is about $230 Kiwi, it will probably cost me another $230 to get them here but hey I need pipes!!!! >:( >:( :D ;D
Also have been stripping the tank and chainguard for painting, unusual find (this bike never fails to amaze me with it's wee secrets) the chain guard is white plastic!
I think that is kinda unusual for CB650's. :P even Berley had to inspect them to check. :D
I am so damn excited, those pipes will absolutely make the bike! ;D ;D ;D
Cost of pipes may slow down a few other things I was scheduled to do but I can always slope off to the shed and stare at my flash new front end and them shiny shiny pipes. ;D
