Dear diary: dropped the tire pressure from the 34psi the bike shop had in it down to the reccomended 28psi and bike not such a handfull on corners now.
Number 2 plug oil fouled and bike running on only 3 cylinders!!!
Have decided that as I don't have the time to sort it right now with work and 2 other bikes arriving soon that I will send the tank to get painted in the mean time and fiddle with it later.
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Ok Hush ... what are these other 2 bikes that are arriving? Seems like you are, or will, be fast getting the disease that alot of us end up with, collecting bikes and collecting parts. How about a 3rd one, as there is a CB650 for sale on Trademe with great 4 into 2 pipes.

Bought 2 bikes off Trade me this week Phil, as you know I have been hunting something my Hobbit like partner Jaffa can straddle, I looked at an 84 650 Custom (last of the SOHC 650's) and she was on tip toes but I still liked the look of it so the guy wanted 1500 and I offered 1200 and got it.
Needs some TLC has front brake issues and seems not to want to idle but it may be more rideable than my 79 650 for a while.
The other one was listed on Trademe in the "other parts" section and I found it by pure chance, Suzuki GSX400L which is another rather unique (damn I love the strange stuff don't I) bike a bit like a GN250 but a touch gruntier.
The guy only wanted $400 for it but as I had just knocked a few hundee off the custom I thought I'd try the same trick again and offered $310 right on auction close, result Jaffa gets a neat little bike she can touch the ground on ha ha. ;D
Been garaged and parked up for 7 years since a blowen head gasket occured, new set on order ($65).
May have to move the shed around to accomodate all this hardware but I'm sure I'll manage.

Hey Phil, that was never a Traffic Police bike, wrong foot peg structure and they never had tail ends like that.
But I have a sneaking feeling that this bike was parked very close to a certain white ex MOT honda 650 and the pipes ARE off an ex MOT bike and those mirrors ARE off an ex MOT bike and I think I own that ex MOT bike!!!!!! >:( >:( >:(
Cheeky beggar had two for sale at once and most of the good bits got swapped onto the black road bike.
Hence my adventures in buying Texas pipes!
I bet the jetting is wrong for that bike too cos I got the 4 into 1 pipes that should be on it hanging in my shed. ;D ;D ;D
Check out these two new additions to my family. ;D ;D ;D

NICE score on the '84 650!

You ever figure out why you couldn't get past 55mph?

Think its cos she don't like accelerating on 3 cylinders Soos!
I obviously need to do some more investigating on this problem but after cleaning the plugs and refitting them she purred beautifully so maybe just needs a damn good thrashing out on some back road, like whose gonna pull up a cop??? ;D ;D ;D

Yup....
that would do it!

Had that happen, and 60 was about my top speed.

Probably in the carbs, coils, plugs, wires, spark plug boots, or spark plugs....
I'd check all but the carbs first.

And don't think spark plugs don't go bad.
I have had 1 new iridium plug go bad, and a d8ea one in the past.

Good luck, glad to hear the wife now has a ride to roll around on with you!
But since she doesn't fit on that '84 cb650 well... i'll just take it off your hands, but of course you will have to pay shipping to get it to me :)

Only bought them cos I was soooo jealous of your collection Phil. ;)
Hoping the two new bikes don't take too much time to get them sorted as I have stuff all road time on a bike lately and need something I can just point at the gate and head off to where ever.

Dear diary: Not much to report, have dropped the tank into painters and the guy is a bike fanatic, likes to get the tanks done just so!
Quote $300 to do tank and another $100 if I want the stickers done and clear coated, might as well get it all done in the one hit.
Have not forgotten the old cop bike, just been busy and getting the custom road ready.
Block your ears to all the Police reading, I have developed a universal plate that incorporates the reg.wof in one go so I can easily swap it between bikes while I'm testing one and rebuilding the other ha ha ;D ;D
Will make them both road legal once I'm happy with their performance but for now saving $315 seems a good call.

I didn't see that...

But i have done the same when getting ready to make a bike fully functional.(mind you i've had 4 running 650's in all, only 2 left.)
Nothing like a shakedown run to see how the bike reacts, and find things that don't show in the garage... like leaking fork seals.

Hey Soos, do you find these 650's extremely light it the front end?
Maybe its just me used to a heavy 70's two stroke but man it feels twitchy at speed (Custom 650) no worries on acceleration, damn thing tried to throw me off the back I swear! ;D
Those CV carbs are wicked, quick blip and the bike responds, might look at a set for the Police special if I can't track that 55mph bug.
Can't do much with her for a while until tanks comes back from painters, man she is gonna look the part, I'm going to fit a screen to it as soon as I find one that looks close to the original and the red/blue running lights on the crash bars.
Got given some original decals from another entusiast and they can go on too, have been given a megaphone which once painted to white will look the part.
Mate at work who fixes CB's has donated a working radio to the project and put me onto the aerial suppliers for those tiny whip aerials the cop bikes had.
Having to "make" a ticket box but found something that might work with a little reconstructing.
Side stand needs a little welding done to add enough knob to catch with my boot as the PO (dk head) cut it off!
Had been humming and harring over fitting a screen but since I got the Custom I don't mind loading the 79 up with all the stuff it would have had as a working bike.
Stay posted, this thing literally stops traffic ha ha......... ;D

What is that called down there?

Hush ... I wonder what reply the MOT would have for the Pegasus. Does it mean that they see the Honda as a winged stallion?
As a kiwi myself I have never taken any notice of what is on the emblem. Pleased it does have a kliwi though. In my earlier days spent more time getting away from the opportunity to be issued a ticket and see what they sport on their bikes.
Could be good to see what they say about it Hush.

Not sure why we have a Pegasus on the Ministry of Transport coat of arms but I'll find out.
Strangely enough I find myself working with 20 or so retired MOT Officers, guess when the Police amalgamated with their department a few years back they decided they didn't want to be cops and became Prison Officers instead!
Wasn't Pegasus the messenger of the Gods in Greek mythology?
Here's the message, "pull over or else"!! ;D ;D ;D
Jaffa has me busy putting in a new spa pool, what started out as a $5000 backyard addition has ballooned into a $13000 and rising monstrosity, not much time to chase parts or ride bikes or even get wrenching (great US saying).
You watch, come the end of November when her GSX400L turns up she'll want it fixed ASAP.........women! :D

Jezz mate that gave me a fright, thought someone was selling the contents of my shed!
I paid more than they want for both bikes on those pipes I imported and the paint job on the 79 is costing $400!

Dear diary: not much happening as I wait and wait and wait for the tank to come back from the painters, should be worth the wait though and will look mint with decals professionally done and then clear coated.
Cheers for the nudge on that auction Phil, I contacted the seller and he has the red lights I need for the crash bars too! ;D
Wierd that he is selling a CB650PZ and a CB650C Custom in my home city, had to look damn close to make sure he wasn't selling my bikes! >:(

Oh yeah and cheers to the guys who nominated my poor old bike for BOTM but she aint ready guys and so I had to turn that huge honour down.

Dear diary: Still waiting on the tank, minor forward motion with getting the side stand welded.
Got one of the machine shop inmates to add some steel to the end of the side stand, now maybe I can find the little sucker when I want to! ;D
Have found a dealer who specials main and side stands and he has a main for the Custom.
New "O" ring chain giving me grief but will find a dealer to "rivet" it together for me on Monday.

Edit update, scored a main stand for the Custom for $20! ;D

Dear diary: very little progress to report, bike now has a flat tire, like how did that happen I've ridden it a grand total of 16klms since I got it road legal???
Went and saw the painter doing the tank today, have decided after much chasing around on the internet for a cheaper deal on the decals that $200 locally ain't bad, David Silver wanted like 350 Euros (whatever they are worth?) and then there would be freight etc.
Have put Custom back together after fitting new "O" ring chain and a few other bits and bobs to her, she starts real easy now so maybe just lack of riding was the problem coupled with a petrol tank full of cow dung (it seriously looked like crap).
Oh yeah and ordered new wind screen for Police bike $220 added to the final tally but gets me closer to a finished bike with the ticket box (something I will have to manufacture) and the crash bar lights to go (there is a set of those locally if I can only make contact with the seller again).
Garage all cleared out in readiness for Jaffa's GSX400L which should arrive in next week.

Dear diary: Ah the week from Hell has finally arrived, both bikes in pieces. >:(
Main stand for Custom is a fight to attach but at least it is the genuine article and will fit after some more blood loss and skin donations to every sharp object on the bike but I should be right by tonight.
Police bike has flat tire, so easy removal right?
Wrong wrong wrong...axle cannot be taken out without removing right side exhaust system, tire still will not come out until Police tail section is removed.
Small stain on floor (just for a change not my blood) hmm what can that be?
Looks under front twin discs...oh oh....fluid dripping, looks like seals gone inside caliper, wonder where I'll get those in Godzone for less than a second mortgage?
Always a bright side though and my advert for parts on Trade-me has got me in contact with a guy who has some genuine parts he "may" sell me, the original teardrop revolving light would be a huge score and he has various crashbar reds as well.
Dropped tire into bike shop for reps and found one of my old riding buddies is head mechanic, so having that rivet on "O" ring chain wont be a hassel.
Its like 28 degrees here in Napier and it must be 30 in the garage, it is gona take me at least 4 cans of beer to wrestle that main stand on. ;D

Hi Rick ... wondering if you struck the same problem as I had with my new tubes/tyres when fitted to the CB350F. The front kept going down. I took the valve out and then refitted, in case it was not seating good and had grit trapped under it. Most tyre fitters will blow up a tyre, let the air out to purge the inners, refit and fill again.
But alas, in my case it continued to go flat and only once the valve was replaced did she stay full of air permanently. A crook valve.
