Jez they are thick for an electronics store, none of the store clones had any idea!
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Dear diary: Just given the solenoid its' 30 year service, damn bike starts just by looking at it now! ;D
Putting the Custom up for sale reluctantly, I just seriously don't have the time for two bikes at the moment, oh yeah and the GSX400.
So someone is gonna get quite a nice wee bike, I haven't done a huge amount to it but its better than when I got it so hopefully I wont take a loss.
Waste of a good bike just sitting there. :)

Too bad there.

Don't loose money, price it 4-500 over what you paid, and be willing to take the best offer you get.if nothing else the guy buying it will feel like he got a deal, and you at least break even.

If nothing else you learned something.

hey Soos, yeah well I couldn't bare to part with the old PZ but the Custom just doesn't have the same character even though they are both supposed to be 1982 models.
I've got it on for $2000 but I'll take $1550 just to cover my original outlay.

Dear diary: as I take the PZ on longer runs I'm gaining some confidence in her and she has very few vices, has begun flooding when left with the tap on so learning to turn off at stop.
Am going to replace the 100 tire on the back with a new 130 as the 100 is just too skinny and feels like it might give out on some corners, it is also hardened by time.
Bonus is that the 130 is not only 30 millimetres wider but also 20 millimetres lower as opposed to the old tire (new=70mil old=90 ) so I expect a smoother lower angle.
Siren spat the dummy and still trying to repair that but the scare factor remains high for the old Police bike. ;D
New boots (for my feet) are taking some getting used to and realise that protective riding pants should be on my shopping list.
Have Custom 650 up for sale, when it sells I'll redirect some of the money back into Jaffas GSX so she can be on the road with me.
Heaps of bikes old and new out and about right now, and the old PZ gets tons of attention whenever I stop, got hailed by a mate whose Harley was parked outside a seaside bar this week so went to have a beer with him, all the patrons were agog at the "cop" drinking on duty, I'll never get over the fact that people never see the age of this bike (30 years) only all the red lights etc ha ha ha..........at least people are polite and curious to me where ever I go and getting noticed can't be a bad thing when most bikers are almost invisible to car drivers. :)

Yeah I know what you mean about the older patern Scunny, some of those newer tiger stripe ones would look just plain silly on our bikes.
I'm looking at a 130 for the rear and hoping it will fit between the swing arms, can't remember the brand name but I said to the guy at 5 Star Suzuki that I don't want anything that will look stupid on a 30 year old bike, he showed me the tire he reccomended on the computer and it seemed OK, somewhere between what I've got (Bridgstone 100) and the modern tiger stripe ones so guess its the best I can hope for, I'll let you know the brand name when I find out.

Dear diary: well the Custom sold on Trade-me tonight so guess I will have more room in my shed to work on the PZ and Jaffas' GSX400.
Custom is going to a good home, the guy has an 86 model as well.
Fixed the annoying pole light fault that was bugging me and will re route the crashbar lights so they all work off the same switch like they are supposed to.
Weather not looking to great tomorrow but might sneak in a quick ride before work.
Not looking forward to dropping the rear wheel off to get the tire replaced, new wider, lower, softer tire will
make a nice difference.

Dear diary: been reading a few threads on here about Metzler ME77's for rear tires, will go look at some tomorrow as that old hard tire is annoying the heck outa me.
With custom sold I can put some money back into the 79, a rear tire is top of my shopping list.

Dear diary: Decided not to buy the Dom-fang-Kamakazi tire the Suzuki guys wanted to sell me, cancelled that and went over to Hastings to see the Honda guys.
I went early before work expecting to be there for an hour or so but the Honda guys know their tires and found me an ME55 120/90/18 METZLER to match the Metzler they sold me earlier for my front in 5 minutes flat.
It will match the bike much better than the Korean tiger stripe one the Suzuki guys had sorted for me too, it just didn't look right for the old girl to be wearing that!
Now I just have to wrestle the back wheel off again to get it fitted.
The old Honda guy reckoned that my Bridgestone Spitfire 110 was under shodding for a CB650 and he should know, he runs the same ME55 on the back of his CB750, says they feel real good on a corner and that is just what I want in a rear tire. ;D

oy, know where *I* could pick up a 4-into-4?  there was one on e-bay but so rusted I couldn't tell if it was an exhaust set or an old tuba.

Why is yours coozed?
I got mine off Ebay last year, cost me $250 kiwi which is probably about $170 US these days, then it cost me about the same to ship it across the pacific ocean so all up $550 but the final look of all that chrome as opposed to the fugly 4 into 1 it had on it was worth every cent. ;D

Mine's not 'coozed' per se, but the left headers are a little bent and I've just got aftermarket 4-into-2s instead of the 650'c' 4-into-4s...

Dear diary: Oh joy, tomorrow I collect my rear wheel from the Honda shop freshly fitted with a new ME55 Metzler, I feel so much better knowing I will be running a matched set of front and rear tires.
My new armoured riding pants turned up today, shame no one was here to meet the courier so I will have to go collect those as well tomorrow.
Ah days off, ya gotta love em..........just done 8 in a row at the prison and need some Hush time to recouperate, some jobs just squeeze the juice outa ya eh.

Ah yes Kit your 650 is the semi chopper and would have the 4 into 4's but you maybe dissapointed by the sound the original pipes will make if you have become used to the powerful bellow of the 4 into 2's, they are like trumpets ha ha..........I love that sound, shame we have to wear helmets as we ride cos that is such a sweet sound. ;D

Dear diary: My baby has new shoes, the Metzler ME55 is a much better looking tire and if Murphy's law hadn't intervened and let the skies open up I would be able to tell you how much better they perform!
Suffice it to say I don't want to try out new tires on slippery wet roads, I think I remember reading that rubbing them with sugar soap got rid of the new tire coating so some of that may be on the shopping list today.
My cat Neko even had to come look at them, but since she couldn't eat them she soon lost interest.
Getting them was half the battle with the Honda dealers initially fitting a Dunlop on the rim, when I pointed out that I requested a Metzler they told me to come back in half an hour, at least they had the good grace to knock the price back from $220 plus $20 fitting to $219 all up. ;D
Wrestling the back wheel back on was a PITA of monumental proportions but I learned a lot about angles and bits that can go on first and last ha ha. ;D
I had to drop the chain but that was preferable to disturbing the exhaust pipes as anything that breaks the seal on pipes could make them leak again.
Oh one thing I did learn (remember) is that you can rebuild your whole back axle, adjusters, spacers, wheel, brakes and all on the shed floor and then fit them due to Honda's clever use of removable ends on the swingarms (but of course all you experts knew that eh!)
So putting the whole thing back on just requires patience, the arms of a weightlifter and dropping the chain as it truly gets in the way.
But for us with 4 into 2 exhausts where the axle cannot come out past the pipes this method is a Godsend.

When I first tried to remove my '79 parts bike's rear wheel I was freaking out 'cause the exhaust (was bent?) so close to the axle nut on both sides, I couldn't even remove the nut.
I was afraid I was going to have to either take off the exhaust, or the swingarm.

The learning curve is a pain, but once you know the ins and outs of the 650's they are pretty nice bikes.

Nice lookin' treads BTW.

Nah that has been on the market for a while and to my way of thinking its $3000 over priced.

Dear diary: today was one of those one step forwards two steps back kinda days.
While washing the bike the rear wheel weights removed themselves and now I'm not sure weather it's worth removing the wheel to get it done again or just ride it as is? :(
I've got 3 weeks leave at the end of this week and I intend doing a huge amount of riding while I'm off work.......hmm we'll see.

best bet would be to ride it for a bit and see if it causes any vibration..if not leave it be but if it does get it redone...Heres a tip to make sure the weights stay put this time make sure they clean the area really well...what works best is the cleaner they use for cleaning a tire just before patching. and when they are ready to put the weight on have them heat up the glue on the backside of the weights and stick them on right after..if its done right that bastard aint goin anywhere lol. Just a couple tricks i learned when i was working as a tire tech.

Would you trust them to remove and replace your wheel Mickey, jezz they couldn't even get the right tire on the bike?  >:(
Nah i'll ride it and see how it feels, its gotta be way better than before as the old tire was like flat sided and had hardened over the years.  :)
