Alrightee....the local Honda guys have the big parts book for the PZ model and it has two different clutch cables for the 79 CB650PZ.

Part number 22870426-610 should be the New Zealand one but they also mention a general export model part number 22870426-405?

Looks like I might be rebuilding my old cable. :(

Would you like us to measure our cable and compare what we buy over here with what you have, Hush?  :)

Thanks for the offer Mickey but as both your bikes are Custom models.....hang on...yes please can you measure one.
Because the Custom bikes allow extra cable for the riser handlebars that could be my answer! :)
If you don't have one off the bike use a piece of string to follow the cable and then measure the string.
You're clever girls you'll figure it out. ;)

I'll measure it tomorrow if Kit doesn't ride to school. So, that means, she'll probably ride.  ::) Maybe I can catch her before she leaves in the morning.  ;)

Captains log stardate 24042010: Well it looks like for some reason the longer clutch cable was used on my bike, Kit got back with a measurement of 144cm which is same as the one that came off bike. :(
On a brighter note, brother-in-law Llyod (blood worth bottling) took my old cable to his place and made a real good job of repairing it so while I hunt for a new cable at least I'll be able to ride. :)
Missed this weeks Ambulance ride in support of the ambo's who scrape so many riders off the road and patch them up...darn it all. :(

Can't you just order the one from Honda? That's what we did. You could do feebay but I would stay away from Motion Pro. They just don't fit the 650's correctly with their cables. There is always something not quite right with them. Good luck!! Any cb650 clutch cable from '79-82 should fit. Well, maybe not the NZ version...  ::) :D

We have a spare on our parts bike if you need it. Let us know. I'm pretty sure it's just fine, we'd just clean it up a bit and lube it well.  :)

Just the knob end that fits into the handlebar lever.
Ta for the offer Mickey but I'm sure I can source a new one now, very grateful for you girls measuring yours for me.
All good now I know that the Custom will fit I can order the right cable.....still have no idea why the stock "Z" cable didn't fit??

OK I'm mobile again, the reconditioned cable is on the bike (the one ordered from D.S. still hasn't arrived after 2 weeks) so maybe this weekend if the weather doesn't go South I'll be able to get out for a stroll. ;)

Gonna take the bike for a walk??  ;)

Glad you got the cable fixed, hope it stays that way.

Captains log stardate 27042010: OK as I guessed the new cable turned up finally and it's a 22870-426-610 which is way too short for my bike.
So onto Trade-me that goes. ;D
Thanks David Silver............NOT! >:(

Can't send it back? I would. I would make them pay the shipping too since they sent you the wrong cable twice and you actually talked to them about it before the 2nd one was shipped.

At least you have yours repaired until you can get another one.

Dear diary: Well the repaired clutch cable works great so no rush to renew but I'll get one eventually.
Had "Blondie" up to 140kmph roday so she is running pretty well for being left in the shed for a few weeks. ;D

Ah ha...a definitive answer to my much vexing question:

The standard PZ has high bars (25cm above the handlebar clamp compared with about 5cm for the Z model) so it uses a longer cable 143cm (part 22870-426-405 ).
