If I wrap the headers of my CB500 will I have to re-jet??
« on: May 23, 2008, 04:36:23 PM »
Does anyone know if I will have to rejet or retune my carbs if I wrap the headers?  I am going from a 4 into 4 to a 4 into 2 exhaust on my 1973 cb500 and want to wrap the headers and I will paint the mufflers with some of that high heat paint.  I have heard conflicting reports that the wrap will make me need to rejet.  Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this?

Thanks,
Brandon

Thats a thought i had never had.

Supposedly the exhaust gasses gain velocity due to the lack of heat loss.
??Possibly helping the upper rpm scavenging effect??

Looking forward to a answer with this Q.

Going from the 4-4 to 4-2 possibly.
Wrapping, ridiculous.

The effect of wrapped header is extremely marginal so it won't affect jetting.  Likewise, if you're looking for a performance boost, you'd need magnifying glass to find it.

I am not looking for a performance boost, I am just looking to make it look better.  I have seen some of the header pipes wrapped and it looks decent, but I had read in some places that you might have to rejet if you do this because it supposedly had such a big effect on the temps.  From the sounds of it, it should work fine, Hooray!!

Thanks all!
