Very nice car mate...  I have had some nice Aussie performance cars as well but never a convertible, always wanted a 1967 Firebird formula 400 rag top....mmmmmmmmmmm  ;)

OK,

Here is the lost post!

So I got the frame onto the engine.  I cannot even believe what a relief it is to have the engine out of the work stand, and the tool cart back under the workbench. 

So, with a buddy, we carefully removed the engine from the workstand, and laid the engine down on its left side on a thick layer of cardboard.  I then took the frame (light enough to be a one man job), which only had the the battery box attached to it, over the engine.  I was concerned that the starter would need to be removed in order to fit, but it was not necessary.  With a little bit of figeting here and there the frame slid right onto the engine with no drama, and more importantly, no scratches.

I took the 2 thick gauge engine bolts and started them in from the right (top) side.  As you look at the bottom of the CB450 engine, there is a "channel" that allows you to see the engine mounting bolts as they pass from one side of the engine to the other.  I could not get the bolts all the way through the left side mounting holes.  I made sure the threads on the bolts were not touching the engine, so that as I uprighted the frame they would not be damaged.  I carefully uprighted the frame and then slowly pouned the mounting bolts home.
Pretty easy!  And the engine looks great in the frame.

Obviously, I got excited, and had to put on the tank and seat to get an idea of what it would be looking like.  Me likey!










Time to wire her up, install the swingarm, get the new steering bearings in, get the wheels and tires back from mounting and .....  OK, its still a long road, but at least I have a real idea of what it will look like.

Hey Gersh, I just went and picked up my cb450 k6.  I thought I was going to get just a frame and frozen motor but I found a complete bike instead for $250.  It is still a complete basket case, but should be fun to work on.  It was in AZ and I had to drive 470 miles one way.  It was actually very funny and everyone was looking at me because I had the whole front end off and the bike laid down on it's side stuffed into the back of a mini cooper. LOL.  I wished I had taken pictures of that but I forgot.  I am going to start working on the motor once I get a engine stand.  I hope I can do half as good as you did.

I did a 69 CL last year, It was great fun to tear around on before I gave it back to it's owner. 

Doing a 67 CB this year, and maybe into next.

Don't hardly seem fair,you hit the wrong button once causing me to wear out my right click refresh button over the course of two days. After seeing the pic's of the motor and tank mounted it looks too nice to ride;that's going to be one of the nicest looking bikes around.
That seat looks like a good candidate for one of those period correct plastic covers that mom encased the couch and chairs in to keep them safe while we were spilling our Frosted Flakes during Cartoon Carnival Saturday mornings.

I've also read every post in this thread knowing that this thread isn't going to be one of those that you realize,after reading the first 15 pages, died over a year ago for no apparent reason. Your talent shines!

Mike - Sorry about that!  I could have sworn I hit Post and not Just Preview!  Yeah, the seat will never be able to see any rain, but my bikes live indoors.  If i travel with it, I will make a second seat that is a bit less delicate.  My Grandmother had those covers in Brooklyn, along with the clear plastic runners over the carpet!  I don't think its the look I am going for!

Retro - Its an SL Guard.  I have to figure out how to mount it up with the stock inner.  If you look at a stock CB450 Rear Fender, it looks to be in two pieces that have been spot welded together.  I will investigate it further this weekend.

Frankenstuff - Your name always puts the Frankenberry character in my head - BTW, Thank you.  I am a big fan of your products.  Look for my orders on some CB550F sidecovers!

Mark - I can't wait to see your Bomber Restoration.  That bike is KNARLY - but totally deserving of a new life! 

CBFnut - That must have been a sight to behold!  Too bad you don;t have pictures!  Listen, keep yourself organized, and it all comes apart nice an easy.  If you can, use the Todd Henning Racing 500 Piston kit.  Also, search Hondaman's list of improvements for the CB450 engines. 

Weedoo - It is pretty soft, but it is built using a stock seat pan and the foam from a stock seat.  I had it shaped to more resemble a CB550F seat, a little less tall and a bit longer.  The work was done by Pirate Upholstery in Kingston, NY. 

Can't wait for the weekend!  I am looking forward to building up the wiring harness using products from these guys.  I really like the DTM connectors and the braided wrap.

I was questioned about making some CB450 stator covers and points covers a few weeks back. I honestly just wasnt really feeling it. Then this morning forum member 'maduncle' shot me this link to your build....and now I am jumping in with both feet; pumped to get going on the covers. Thanks for the inspiration!

Whoever did that seat did a beautiful job!!

The green piping was a good idea.

The reason the seals may have been pushed out of the engine is because the breather may have gotten clogged up.
Better check on that.

Which model mate, 350, 450. and year please ?  I really like the shape of the guard, the straight sides make it look better than a shortened 750 style one....   Can you tell me at all if it is close to the same width of a 750 rear guard.?   Thanks Gersh.... ;)

Seller never listed the year, but I am pretty sure its a 450.  Look around, most 350 SL fenders were painted.  This is definitely ss.  Fits the 450 frame perfectly, should fit the 750 as well.

Thanks Gersh, whilst my bike is mostly bomber (well K0 frame and engine) - I am pretty sure that I have a K1 thank too, as my side plates match yours.

I actually prefer the K1 tank over the bomber tank, the bomber side plates look a little too 'pointy' to me.
