So anyway - back to your bike.

What rear sets have you used again? I am looking at the DCC custom made sets as they look very neat and easy to fit.

So a quick update…
Before I left last weekend, I was able to get the BCR Brake Scoop installed on the bike.  The piece itself is very nice and gives the front brake a different look.

Now, out of the box, the scoop was not a direct fit.  It needed to be trimmed around the caliper and the mounts needed to be tweeked to get a good fit.  Remember, the CB calipers are floating, and it is best not to have the scoop contacting the caliper.

So, using a half round file, I trimmed the scoop down around the caliper until I had a nice fit with no contact on the caliper.  I thought of using a grinding stone, but my buddy recommended doing it by hand with the file in order not to “blue” the stainless.  During the test fittings, I tweeked the mounts as well.  It was pretty easy to get done, and if you are installing one, you will easily see what needs to be done.

Close up:

I had Retrobikes make me up a new model sticker for the sidecover, since the bike is no longer a 450.  I had purchased replica 450 Tank Badges, but they cracked.  I was very careful not to overtighten them, but the clear resin cracked anyway.  I bought them so long ago, I forgot where they came from, so I cannot go back to the Seller.  I will figure it out eventually…  So fortunately, I had the black and white Honda tank Badges with no Model Designation.  I like them better as they do not have the gold “wing” and lettering.  I am thinking I might want to coat them in resin for protection and it will give them a more original look.

I then moved on to the wiring harness.  Everything worked when I took the bike apart, and the harness was relatively clean, except for some dodgy splices here and there.  I stripped the wrappings and cleaned up the wire sheathing with some brake cleaner and went after the connectors with some contact cleaner.

I wanted to use some trick “chrome” wire wrap from www.wirecare.com , but it would not work in the end.  I spent a lot of time disconnecting the clips from the plastic connectors to do this, fortunately, I did not break anything.  By the time I got some of it done it became apparent that if I needed to get back into the harness for repairs, I would have to remove the entire thing and it could not be reused.  So, I ordered some cool Split Loom instead.

Just for documentation:

A mockup of the rear fender and Limp Sausage Taillight

The Rear Sprocket has arrived, do hopefully I will get the drive-train put together this weekend.

Stay Tuned!

Looking good Gersh, my SL rear guard turned up last week and it is dead straight, very good condition and less than half the weight of the stock 750 fender. Thanks for the tip mate...... ;)

Looks better without it anyway.  Little too Harleyish if you ask me.  A plain dull silver would be good, it would blend right into the frame.

Sweet Bike, I love the sound of a well tuned twin.  I have to 360's and my complete stock 75 is one of the most fun bikes I've ever ridden.  I'd love to score a restorable 450 someday.

Thanks Guys!

Retro - anytime.  My project this weekend will be to cut and fit my SL Fender to the stock 450 Rear Inner.  I will grind out all the spot welds on the stock inner and attempt to keep all the mounting points and wire channels.  I will then trim back the SL Fender to a fit where it sticks out from the frame, but only enough to protect the seat from debris and have a good mount for the taillight.  I will also try to use the stock fender mounts that also mount the rear signals.

My buddy is going to tech me how to weld, and when done the whole new "reconstituted" rear fender will be sent to the Chrome Plater.

Cbfunut - thanks man!  Me too!

Broshi - It would have looked funky.  I might leave what is done as is.  Joker makes some nice trick wire holders that tap into the frame, I might use those with the split loom...  we will see.

TTFrame - Me too.  My '72 CL350 is a really fun bike to throw around.  I have her running just great, and she pulls really well.

Everything about this build screams master designer. If the bike was mine the only way it would leave the garage is if it was in the Popemobile, with the pope on it,holding a 12ga street sweeper. Well maybe I would ride it once or twice, maybe a bunch of times. nevermind

So, I ran into a bit of a problem this weekend.  I went to mock up the handlebar and controls.  I love the Superhawk bar, but it really only works for, well, a Superhawk!

Reason being, its is too narrow to accept the stock switches and M/C and throttle on the rider's right.  The barrel of the M/C hits the handlebar clamp.  I was thinking about using Joker Controls and a smaller M/C like what is used on the Triumph Bonne's, but I really want to use as much stock stuff as I can.

That said, I have a Norman Hyde M-Bar in the mail as we speak.  I think the look will be right, and the ergo's will be better than the Superhawk bar.

My buddy and I built up his '75 200T and his Superbar is just too wide for the bike, so I will donate the Superhawk to his build.

Anyway, here are some pics to tide us over...

As always, cant't wait for the weekend!

Greta detail photos 'gersh.

I am trying to work out if I remove the rear triangular bracket that holds the rear pegs, but since it is used to hold the mufflers I need to keep it from the looks of your build.

Obviously, it woudl be easier for you to keep it.  You could however use a piece to strap the muffler somewhere else, but that my look worse as well.  I have a really goofy strap keeping my Kerker strapped to the upper shock bolt on my 750K6 - I need to rethink that method...
