NEW 2005 Triumph Bonneville advice
« on: June 03, 2008, 06:12:06 PM »
A local dealer has a 2005 Bonneville (not the T100) in stock. It has zero miles and they have it marked for $6799. Now, a new 2008 goes for $7599 which isn't that much more.

What would be a good price for the bike? I understand it is new but it might as well be a 4 year old model at this point in the year. I have never purchased a new bike before and don't know how negotiating is with bikes. Any advice is appreciated.

thats a GREAT price for that bike. from when i worked as a tech at a triumph/bmw dealer they were the most trouble free bikes sold (with the exception that 50% of the triumphs that came out of the crates had ot have carbs rebuilt) i never saw one in the shop except for maintenance and the odd collision repair.

It is a good price but I would think that the fact that it's 3 years old and sucking up space would make the dealer pretty motivated to sell.  I would shoot him a lower offer and see if it sticks.  The worst that can happen is he says no.

I think they updated the Bonneville in 2006 ??? with a slightly bigger engine/ more power, so it may be worth negotiating a bit because of that as I'm fairly sure the 2005 is a different version to the new model...

I'm just going to hunt a bit and see if I can find more info for ya!

EDIT: Here from Wikipedia for you:

The new Triumph Bonneville produced by Triumph Motorcycles Ltd was released in 2001, and has a 790 cc parallel-twin engine of the same configuration as the original "Bonnie" as they are collectively known. The T100 Bonneville received the 865cc motor when it debuted. All 2007+ Bonnevilles have the 865cc motor. 01-07/08 Bonneville engines use a carburettor (as opposed to fuel injection), chain-type final drive, and other features consistent with the original production Bonneville. Except in The United States, All models from 2008 will be fitted with Electronic Fuel Injection to comply with emission regulations, in the United States EFI will debut in 2009.

Yes the Euro emissions regulations seem to get more and more strict each year. They've killed off carbs now. I think the newer Bonnies with EFi have dummy "carbs" hiding the injectors - a nice touch really.

My mum has a 2007 Bonneville and is very happy with it.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Yep. The engine size did increase. I was thinking about that today. Good call on the carbs fuzzy.

I will probably stop by the place this weekend and take a look. To me the price seems kind of high considering what a new Bonneville is going for. I think if I can get the bike for about $6200 out the door it might be worth going for. There is a promotion for $1000 worth of Triumph accessories with the purchase of a new 2007 or prior model Bonnie. I could get a a few items that I would purchase anyway by going that route.

According to the Triumph site it is still eligible for the 24 month warranty. Here is what is states:

"All new Triumph motorcycles which are registered on or after 1 December 1992 are covered by a 24 month unlimited mileage warranty, commencing from the date of first registration or the date of sale if the motorcycle remains unregistered."

Decisions, decisions.
