Damn this cylinder head looks good.
« on: January 24, 2008, 04:16:53 PM »
Well I got my cylinder head back from O'Reilly's machine shop today and all I have to say is damn!  I figured it would look good but this thing looks brand new.  They said they can do this to just about any part on my motor.  May have to take my cylinder block and have them do it too.  Just have to wait on some o-rings and then I can put my motor back together.  Woohoo!  Anyways here are the pics.

And I have to say thanks to tjjkc aka Tom for all the parts he sold me.

Nothing like a good head job. ;D
Did they media blast it, dip it or what? Whatever process they used it turned an ugly head into a sweet lookin' piece of sohc heaven.
Nice job. Oh yea, what did it cost you?
Sorry for all the questions but if I don't ask them someone else will. 8) 8)

Oh wow, might need some info from whoever did this. Looks amazing. What exactly did you get done and how much did you end up dropping? Would love to find someone local who can do work like this, beautiful!

They beaded everything though I wouldn'y worry about it. Notice how the bead bounced off the siliconed surfaces. I do it a bit differently.

If O'Reilly's is a machine shop (and not a bar) it's probably not a concern, but it's important otherwise to ensure that there are no "cache's" of glass bead sitting dormant in your head, I always wash anything I have blasted in hot soapy water, and use pipe cleaners (do people still smoke pipes?) to clean every oil way and orifice prior to installing, and am surprised at the amount of glass beads I find in the bottom of the tub afterward. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Don't mean to hijack, but does anyone have any good recommendations on places to send a head via mail or even local (So Cal) that can get mine as pretty as this one?

Get it Riecked; Mike Rieck, that is. He's in Massachusetts,  and from what I've discovered, trusted by many folks on this site for head work. I just got my head back from him for my 500K project bike and I'm very  happy.
