Lessons relearned...
Took that Hot Rod for long ride today and was reminded of a few things:
1. Two hours in the saddle on a café bike equals a sore neck.
2. Two hours in the saddle on a café bike equals a lot of fun.
3. After a few months of non-riding, your handling skills do diminish. I went in hot on a few tight turns and puckered up a bit. A rear end slide is fun on a supermoto, not so fun on a CB750.
4. Be aware when riding roads that are new to you. It is easy to get in over your head.
5. Be aware of guys in big SUVs who are on your side of the road and force you onto the gravel shoulder. I literally had two feet between me and his mirror. A-hole.
6. Purpose build Hot Rod engines significantly limit your restraint.
7. High priced new rear shocks are worth every stinking penny.
8. Stop and go traffic sucks.
9. Riding down the avenue between tall buildings makes the Kerker 2 inch baffle echo sound oh so sweet.
10. $17 dollars of Sunoco 94 tops off the tank but doesn’t last very long.
11. Bugs go SPLAT at 70MPH and sting your neck.
12. Mountain roads offer shade and cooler air.
13. Cool mountain air is good for the lungs and acceleration.
14. Anti-skid road gravel is still piled up in most corners following an icy winter in PA.
15. CR carbs RULE.
16. Hold on tight after 8000 RPMs.
17. Those flashing lights in your rear view mirrors may not be for you. Thank God.
18. ZX14’s are much faster than a CB750, but the speeding tickets they get make me chuckle.
19. 35 MPH speed limits are impossible.
20. Relearning certain lessons is why I’ll do it again tomorrow.
