I funking nearly landed on one when I parachuted out of a C130 @ 5K, the dickhead Marine pilot flew in under our stick, and being the biggest bastard I just about bounced off it. I still remember lifting up my legs in anticipation............

Thanks guys, I was hoping that some might appreciate that photo of, what I think of as, a "Grand Old War Bird". I was going through my book marks and trying to thin them out somewhat, when I ran across one for the F106 Delta Dart (tail number #063) that I had found sometime back. I was really set back to actually find some info and photos of the one that I was th crew chief of while stationed at Hamilton AFB in California from Dec 69' til Aug 70' (last part of my enlistment). And, after I found that info, I looked to see if I could find the same info on the F4C that I was assigned to in Japan and couldn't find it, Yet! Here's the stuff on the F106 for those who might be interested. I'm more into the F4, but the 106 ain't bad.

Hey Nick, we used to have some of the B58 Hustlers assigned at Little Rock AFB here in Arkansas. Just a tidbit of info here: the F104 Starfighter, the F4s and the B58s all used the J79 series engines (just different versions. I'm liking the B58s also. Mean acft.

I work with a guy who used to crew B-58's. I had never heard of one until he told me about them. Speaking of old jets, I just found out there will be an F-104 demonstration team (3 aircraft) at a local airshow on July 5th. I am looking forward to seeing that.

Tim, I don't remember if it was a 63' or 64' though.

If it was a 63', it would have been "63-0595" and if it would have been a 64', it would have ben "64-0595" It was an F4C PhantomII. I had found that there was a list of the ones used for displays, but not of the others.

Any assistance in this would be appreciated.

In the checking around that I did, like checking on the 67th Tac Fighter Squadron (which I found had quite a bit of history connected with it too), I was assigned to, let me see that the F4s were replaced there with F15s and THAT would have been cool to have crewed one of those!

The Hustler was the 'star' of the film 'Fail Safe'.

FWIW I took a fellow out on a road test the other week who flew Starfighters (CF104, I think) in the RCAF. He said it was a real rush; pity about the fatalities!

The only Starfighter I have seen is bolted down at a small airport I work at. I do happen to share a hangar with one of two flying F-100's in the world. It just went to a new owner who plans to fly it more often.

To look at an F104, it looks like they sat a J79 engine out there and built the plane around it!

You ought to hear the "Howl" they make when the are making a their way around to the other end of the airstrip, so that they can land. It is an "Incredible sound".

The F-100s were what the Arkansas Air National Guard had when I moved to the Fort Smith Area back in Dec 72'! Then, they got the F4s, then the F16s and now have the A10 Warthogs!

All I know is that there is at last one squadron of them in Fort Smith Arkansas. So, surely there are more elsewhere. Should have heard MY reaction when I moved up in this area from Little Rock and found out that the Arkansas Air Guard still had F-100s!

Sure couldn't load much on it, in the way of weapons, but I still liked them.

The A-10's are the tank buster/ warthogs, right? Westover AFB is not far from where I live and last I heard it was home for a bunch of them. When I lived in Chicopee (where Westover is located) I saw them fly over my house all the time.

They flew low and you could make out the pilot's face. The cannon those things have is amazing.
