Military Time and Branch Served Will You Post Yours?
« on: May 26, 2008, 01:43:28 PM »
I would like to take this time to put down the time and branch and Country served by our folks that were and are Military and would appreciate it if you all would join me in doing this.

BTW, this isn't meant to take away from those who didn't because of whatever reason. ;) I know of 1 other site that recognizes their military members.

Australian Regular Army 24 years, active Army Reserve 7 years, ongoing. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

US Army 21 JUN 1966 thru 21 JUN 1969.  That is 1096 days. 1968 was a leap year so I had to serve an extra day.

U.S. Navy (active) 1964-1968 [Hospital Corpsman, Fleet Marine Force, Viet Nam support (shipboard-dental) 1966-68]. Ready Reserve 1968-1970.  Lost first wife (spinal meningitis) and many friends during that God awful mess.  Sickens me to see same patterns being repeated in Iraq today.  Became Zen Buddhist (lay)monk shortly after release from reserves>>"burned out" conflicting feelings on zafu over years>>haven't looked back on it very much since then.  Can find very few justifications, need for war in today's world.

Mind boggling how many people died during the big wars.  400K from the US alone during WWII.

Andy Rooney had a good point of view on 60 Minutes;  Those boys didn't lose their lives.  Their lives were taken from them.

Sometimes I get so mad I can hardly move.  I'm smothered.

Off topic. Sorry.

4 years 82nd Airborne..

3 tours to Iraq.

Did my time and left.

Although, I feel each day as a part of me in gone.. Throughout all the things I had to do and endure, I still enjoyed my time, and miss my comrads; One's that are still alive and one's that have fallen.

Sometimes I wish I was still in.

Uncle Ernie.  What's off-topic about that?  War isn't without a price.  I believe EVERYBODY should be real clear on exactly what the price is.  The price in Viet Nam was 58193 Americans lives.  They don't put numbers on the broken hearts of parents, spouses, brothers, sisters and friends of those 58,000.  Mad?  Mad doesn't even come close to describing the feeling. :( >:( ??? :'(

Okie,

Something perhaps most don't realize......

Everyone that served during Nam (or other "eras", "conflicts", etc) whether in country, in combat, or just in service ARE still wounded, if not physically so. We were forever changed. Wish I could've been on the run to the wall. One day it will happen. Perhaps then it will be better.

Here's to those that made the ultimate sacrifice, for they are at peace.

No kidding! The only time I ever used Ketchup on eggs was in the army. It was the only way to get the powdered eggs down [as he gags]. :o

I spent about a month on a Special Forces post and those guys ate like kings.  Did you want apple, cherry, or blueberry pie?  Or cake or pudding for dessert?  And that was all at just one meal!!!!!   Back in my unit the only thing the cook knew was 'Airborne stew' (a nondescript mixture of stuff) and rice.  I still won't eat rice, today.  I ate green eggs and ham long before I ever heard of Dr. Seuss.

Small world :)  The auto/hobby shop at NAS Glenview is where my dad taught me to turn wrenches.  He was actually career Army and stationed at Ft Sheridan at the time, but Glenview was closer.

Best food I ever had while in the Air Force, was while I was on alert duty at Hamilton AFB. We were in a building that was set up to house up to 4 acft and usually just had 2 F-106s with a supervisor (during the day), 2 crew chiefs, 2 pilots and a cook (during the day also). We had our own mess hall there. ;) In the afternoon (when the cook was leaving) and during down time, the cook would make sure that the fridge and freezer had whatever we wanted and he also let us cook while he wasn't there as long as we cleaned up afterwards. We were there for 48 and off 12. We had some good times there but, when the time came, we were up and running to launch those 2 F-106s! One time I remember, they were checking to see just how long it would take to launch from a dead sleep. That Alert Alarm went off about 1AM. We all woke up, went out the door, started the power units (electric power and air), got the pilot set to strap in the plane, got off of the plane, the pilots started the engines, we disconnected the power & air connections, quickly went over the flight controls, marshaled the pilots out of the perspective parking places, they taxied down to the other end of the runway and took off in less than 5 minutes! My family and friends could not believe that I could move so fast! :D ::) We had alerts that were scheduled by our higher command and also everytime a ship or plane got out of their designated course (and that seemed to happen pretty regularly). I worked at a gas station (some of you should remember Full Servicegas stations) in Novato (not far from Hamilton AFB, CA) from 12midnight til 8AM and went directly to my    Military Job on the base. ;)
