750 Kick Starter Shaft
« on: June 28, 2008, 12:50:47 AM »
Hi All

Has anyone any simple method of removing the "Kick Starter Shaft Stopper Pin", so that the kick starter shaft can be removed from the lower crankcase half? (short of an angle grinder or oxy set ;D)
Two different manuals that I have describe removing the pin with a pair of needle nose pliers. Thats a joke right! Always knew these manual authors had a sense of humor :P
I have tried everything I can think of. Pliers, multigrips, etc, even tried heating the case to loosen that little sucker. The top of it is getting nicely chewed up but its still stuck in there as firm as can be :-\
I guess the final solution will be to drill the thing out, but if there are any other suggestions, I'm all ears!
By the way, if I do have to destroy it to get the kick starter shaft out, any suggestions as to who may carry the pin as a spare?
Thanks
Mal

Mal, I used the diagonal pliers and popped the pin right out. Grab the pin as close to the case as possible. Just squeeze hard enough to get a bite, then push down, using the handles as a lever.
