No drain plug... Really?

Do 77 CB550F bikes not have an oil drain plug ??? I looked under the engine and I didn't see a drain plug. I know it's time for me to hit the sack but really.... no drain plug?? Do I have to take the pan loose to drain the oil or am I missing something here?

well I found the spot where the plug should be. It looks like the bolt was broken off at some point and JBwelded over.. Dang ...

Look for a replacement oil pan with a good plug on it and just replace it.  Its easy to do just a few bolts and a new gasket, problem fixed.

If you can't find a pan, you could always try a tap and drill.  :-\

Agreed...you have to take the pan off either way.  So I would take it off and then you can decide if you have a chance at getting it out.  Heck, you can do what ever you want to try to get it out.  If you wreck the pan no big deal just get another.  You can probably get a pan for cheap on the for sale area of this board.  May not even be worth the effort to try to get it out.  Good luck with it...

I'll look for another one to swap out on the next oil change. I did the change but is there a torque spec for the bolts? 20-30ftlbs? thx

20 -30 lbs will only lead you to met Mr Helicoil. :o

Actually if you want to retap, you may be able to do it on the bike, depends what is in there..

Try 5 - 8 ft lb. on the pan bolts if you take it off.
