TX CB 750
« on: May 26, 2008, 08:42:02 AM »
I have been wanting to do a cafe project for quite some time now. I finally got a deal on a 78' cb750 4k that wasn't a total snotter. 2nd owner and he still lives next door to the original owner and only 12k miles with clean wiring and no faded plastics since it was always garaged. Now it's time for some clips ons, dead blows to the tank, & mold up a new solo tail.

Interesting to see it survived 12,000 miles and over 30 yrs just so you could come along and smash the tank in  ::)

Cant say I call that progress. Why not find another tank to smash in? One less stock than the nice tank your proposing to cut up for the "look"? But hey one less stock bike means the rest of ours go up in value  ;)

Bash away...

Already have a eBay Super Sport tank that was dented that I'm going to deadblow. Most likely I will keep the original or sell it on eBay. No love for the modders huh I can see the haters already lol. Are you always so condescending to new people on the boards?

Im all for modding a bike but i think when you take a good stock example and destroy it then I personally think its waste and Ill say it. There are plenty of beat up bikes to mod with. I never intended to be condescending.

I wish you the best for your project.

cheers
Andy

I'm a big fan of Cafe racers too, I would agree that clean original parts need to preserved though. i think you are doing the right thing by buying a dented tank and selling the good one. You may even turn a profit. The original bike looks really good though.

I'm not shy at all about mods on my bike, it was far from original when I got it and already had one foot in the grave.  That said, I agree about preserving the OEM parts which have managed to survive this long.  I also try to keep true to the spirit of the original bike in my mods - I'm not trying to make it into a different bike, but personalizing what's already a great machine.

So, clipons, seat, and tank dents.  All of those are reversable mods.  Got anything else in mind?  Any bikes you find particularly inspiring?

cheers

There is a good mix of tastes in these forms and you will not find many "haters".  I am positive Andy was not trying to be condescending to you, just pointing out that it would be a shame to dent such a nice tank.  Good luck with your project, you will find a lot of inspiration and support around here.
