Hi all,
I am an F-16 Crew Chief at Hill AFB, UT in the US Air Force. I am currently on the demonstration team and we travel all over the world doing air shows. I am pretty stoked about that. I have a few bikes, a 2003 CBR600RR, a 1982 CR80 for the wife, and a KDX50 for the munchkins. I am looking for an old enduro, and that is how I came across this little project....
I just picked up a '78 CB750 for $500. It didn't run, and after repairing the electrical issues it had, I started it and it made all kinds of racket. The PO was deeper into the bike than I think he admitted and I have found all kinds of surprises including an exhaust valve at .200" and the #4 piston hitting the cylinder head. Anyway, I am down to the frame and have split the case. I am going to do a full up restoration on it I think and clean it up a bit. My camera quit on me so I will post pictures as I go.
Does anyone know where I can get some rod-end bearings for cheap? The #1 and #4 bearings spun and I am going to swap them out. Trying to stay cheap for now and just get it running right. Everything else seems to be in great shape, including the Cam Chain tensioner, so I will just get a gasket kit and swap the bearings and put it back together. I might hone and re-ring the cylinders and pistons, but we'll see for now. This thing is so easy to work on I love it!!! I am sick of crawling under cars (I have a 1990 5.0 Mustang that I play with too) and this is just purely for cheap fun. If I have to go to the dealer for the bearings I will, but I want to just see how little I can spend. I am sick of people thinking they have to buy the newest and most expensive thing to have someting cool. I want to come in at under $1000 total on this thing and I am at $600 right now. Thinking about a psuedo-cafe racer right now.
