New B almost 78K owner
« on: August 24, 2005, 04:29:35 PM »
 Hello !

New here to this great site , and i`m in the process of getting a 78 K (i hope). Not new to the SOHC`s since i did own a few in my 30 years of riding. But i have a question on the 77-78 model years, are they so different than the 69-76?? Can you list the parts thats are different . And should i look for a 69-76 instead of the 78  ???
I`m in Lancaster PA & thanks for the info

i dont know man. I own a 78K, and other than the size i like it alot. The gas tank on a 78 is bigger, its a 6 gallon tank, and its heavier than hell. Some people call it the red headed step child cause they think its ugly, but everyone on here has to admit its more reliable than the early years. Some think it actually looks sleeker than the early years, hell its all in the eyes i guess.

I`m woundering , what do you mean about size ?? Right now i own an 05 Concours (big 7 1/2 gallon tank) and a small 1970 Yamaha R5. And why would it be more reliable , in the past (1979) i had a 1974 750 K and would take it anywhere and 2 up with not a stitch of trouble . A buddy of mine had a 75 550 K and rode it anywhere also.  Does it have different carbs & ignition, as i think i read right.

There's nothing radically different from the entire
model.

I own a 97 Concours and the CB750 feels taller in the seat than the Concours.
I'm flat footed on the Concours but on the balls of my feet with the CB750.

I would say the 78 model has refinements over the previous years,
such as the larger gas tank (5.3 gallons, actually), a locking gas cap cover,
and other minor changes.

Honda worked out all of the bugs by 1977 and the 78, although
not regarded by self-appointed experts, its really not much different
nor less attractive than any other year.

I get comments all the time on street from car drivers asking
if its a 1969 or 70 model, so who cares if its a 1978.

G'Day Mate, well most 69-76 K owners were disappointed with the 77/78 redesign, most comments I've heard were more about it's "bloated" appearance, than it's "sleek" lines. Kinda like Elvis in his last couple of years.

I don't know that they're any more reliable either, they are all very reliable, but it's universally accepted that the late model engines were the best built, as Honda continually fixed any problems with them as the engine evolved over it's 9 year life.

Still, it's a Honda 750, so it's still a wonderful motorcycle. Hows that R5 going? Geez, I remember when I was just 14 years old, sitting on the back of my mate's R5, I peeked over his shoulder and we were doing 105 Mph, it was summer and we were just wearing sorts and T shirts, those were the days! Great bike though, I wish I had one now. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

I have a K8 and I think it looks cool. (I have a pic in the gallery)

The carbs are different.

The K8 owners list IS growing...

Now thats away of describing a bike LOL  H-D should have called the fatboy Elvis . A buddy of mine keeps trying to get me to buy a DOHC but there is no way i`d passup a good deal on a SOHC even though it has been sitting for many years out side. The R5 is a cool little bike and picked it up 2 years ago and i`m still trying to get good (new or used) parts for it to get it runnig since it sat in a shed for 23 years. I`m a sucker for an abandoned bike that people forgot about it, and i come along and take it off there hands. I picked up an 86 Concours that sat for 10 years under a tarp and got it back in great shape and sold it for a good profit, But now i want an old honda to tool around with and keep for life (hope it`s a long time)
