How do I get correct year of my bike?
« on: June 01, 2008, 12:31:13 AM »
The bike (as most of you will know by now) is a Honda CB650PZ and it was introduced to me as a 1979 model, however my son has just dropped the official paperwork off to me and it states that it is a 1981?
Can I tell from the engine number RGO1E-2001410 or the frame number 1-2001930..........?
I'm used to just reading it off the steering head stem like most motorbikes but this hasn't got that!
It definately looks a 1979 model with the older type mechanical carbs.
Anyone have a definative answer or is carbon dating the only way?

I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Only hope you got is going to the Honda importers and asking them to ask Honda,

I can do it here in UK for a cost of £35 (last time i did it) if i have the full frame number, Honda have no record of engine numbers, type or colours used on any particular frame.

According to the US ID guide All 650 79-83 have engine numbers starting RC03E-2******
And frame numbers RC03-79-80 with 81/82 starting JH2rc***-*M*****
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Remember "Its always in the last place you look" COURSE IT IS YOU STOP LOOKIN THEN!
