How do I get this to quit leaking?
« on: May 30, 2008, 07:16:39 AM »
So I finally got to take my bike on a ride further than back and forth to work last night and noticed it was leaking like a SOB from the 2 holes that the cylinder head side covers(#4) cover.  What is the best way to get these #$%*ers to quit leaking?  By the time we got to where we were eating there was oil coming down the side of the cylinder heads and all over the engine.  Here is the parts fiche diagram.

If you're talking about oil leaking out from part #4, then you need to replace the two o-rings on each side (parts #18) that seal the ends of the rocker shafts.

Ya thats what it is doing.  I figured it is just the o-rings but was wondering if it may be something I am doing.

Thanks

look carefully at the bolt holding the metal brackets that the ally covers screw to should have a steel waser between the bolt head and bracket and a SEALING washer between bracket and cam cover.

oil feed to cam comes via the threaded bit and leaks without the correct washers in the right places

Ya its actually coming out of the holes where the o-rings are.  I took the bottom washer off to see if that would help and started it and the oil just came pouring out.
