I just picked up the very first issue of "Motorcyclist Retro" and it features a Sandcast and a Mack III.  This Vic World guy has done an AWESOME job on his sandcast.  The bike is downright dreamy!

They call him Mr. CB750.  I wonder how many of our members can challenge him for the title.  ;)

From what I've read, it sounds like he has the Fort Knox of NOS CB750 parts.  Enough to build a "brand new" bike or 10.

the guy had a lot of foresight and cash to buy up the parts when he did.

Vic was building cb750 sandcast "new" bikes a couple of years ago. Probably will still do one if you are willing to pay enough.

I think I remember him posting once or twice to this list back in the old old old days (three websites ago).

I was wondering who it was in the magazine since a friend of mine told me there was a cb750 restorer featured in it....I was kinda hoping it was him.

This magazine seems to really cater to us guys that wrench on these old bikes.  I don't think a subscription is available yet, but as soon as it is, I'll be on the list.   ;D

*edit* I just read that the next issue doesn't come out till September.   :(

It's really a shame that the US doesn't seem to have quite as large of a vintage bike following as England.  There are 2 or 3 good magazines out of England that cater to vintage enthusiasts and they are packed with ads for parts suppliers and restorers.  I usually pick them up at Borders, but they cost about as much as a book.

To be honest I am more of a fan of motorcycle classics than I am of anything motorcyclist does....but then I am biased....

there are plenty of mags for old bike guys here in the US that don't just cater to HDs. Plus your local Barnes and Noble carries most of the english mags.

I would love to have that magazine, but it is unavailable in Spain. Would somebody do me a favour and buy it and send it for me? Obviously I will pay all the costs involved if you have Paypal, or exchange for a CB750 spanish magazine if you want.

Sure!  PM me your info and I'll get it out this week for you.

BTW, there is an ad in there that has a DOHC 6 cylinder Honda that looks to be a late 70's or early 80's bike.  Anyone know what it is?  Nevermind, I just found it.  CBX  Holy bad assness!

Apart from having the Aladdin's cave of parts a genuine 970 CR750 etc - what's Vic done for you? I don't see him offering any golden nuggets of advice or help in getting hard to find spares for anyone here or well, anywhere?! Does that mean he should be a member of a forum that helps the greater good of SOHC4 ownership through mutual help and experience?

OK- who asked Vic a question once and got a straight answer...?

Just a little advocacy of the devilsh kind!  ;D

I apprerciate your position LMP. All for one and me for me I'd guess is what your saying. Mr. CB750....sure......I guess. It doesn't take much to build a bike fron scratch if you have the parts....really.
I've done it transfering parts from a wreck to a new frame......same thing. Not to take anything away from the bikes but Vic isn't down with the "crew" IMO. LMP is right.

I had Motorcyclist Retro in my hands last weekend at Barnes & Noble....

and I just couldn't buy it. $8 for a US bike magazine? No way. It wasn't worth it to me. $5 yeah, but $8?! I'll just buy a UK mag thanks.

That said, the quality of paper and photos did seem far nicer than regular US magazines.

Exactly. I subscribed to PB for 2-3 year back in the late 90s - early 2000s. It was $60 or something, but it was worth it... it was a great mag. I also bought Superbike a lot, and I have a couple issues of Classic Motorcycle & Mechanics. They're all good magazines.

But as much as it looked like they were trying to do all the good things UK magazines do, I just couldn't justify $8 for a thin US bike magazine.

You know what....LMP is so very right (I say this after rereading his post). What has this guy (Vic) offered the SOHC community? He does the magazine stuff to self promote. Has he offered ANYTHING to OUR community????? Lite sticks on 2 wheels. ::)

Ahem! Why thank you - you are too kind (reminds me I need to take some more pics or Terry from Oz will be calling me names  ;))

Interestingly Vic World brought over one of his CB750 completely from parts bikes to the Classic and Motorcycle Mechanics show in Stafford the other October. He had a pitch right behind the main CM stand and stood here with his bike....it was weird, almost like he had some kind of aura or something - there was clear space around him most of the day with people admiring the 750 but not getting too close so that he could speak to them. It was spooky - like he was Dracula or something ;D

There's so much more value in groups of people such as everyone on this forum contributing experiences, sharing ideas and a little leg pulling along the way - hell whay wouldn't you want to be part of this?! You gotta be weird not to like you guys ;D

Hey Mike - I've got about 5 years of late 90's PB magazines taking up cupboard space - maybe I should send them to you LOL!

Incidentally, Classic and Motorcycle Mechanics magazine is available as an electronic subscription with some trick reader software thingy. You can pay for a subscription by credit card and get the whole magazine over email or something so you save the postage costs of the ol' paper version. I thought it's worth plugging them as it' such a grat mag and the editor Rod Gibson (Dr Rod...) is one of biking's true Gentlemen...get it all at http://www.classicmechanics.com/ and look for digital issues on the left hand side!

Your welcome LMP. I have actually subscribed to PB for about 16 years except when they were bought out, downsized the mag and were #$%*. I especially loved Trevor's writing (and pics), Simon(as a young lad), Mark Forsyth and John Robinson (RIP). John had forgotten more than I'll ever know. Fantastic writing that every bike magizine in the world copied at the time. Heady times my friend. ;) ;D PS   Who was the lad with the blonde mohawk/round glasses that was killed in an accident......what a rider. Was it Rod? That pic of him standing a Goldwing straight up with a passenger....priceless.

+1 to that on all counts. It lost its way a bit when young Simon grew up, took th welly boot off his head and became editor but it's back on the tracks again now. John Robinson - a true genius if ever there was one. Mr Franklin is writing for Ride or T.W.O. magazine now I think....Pwalo of the Fens lives on!!!

Do you remember Gus Scott and Ronnie Smith? Sadly also RIP now. I have the Moriwaki VTR that Trevor tested in PB and Gus later rode in British Superbikes. Yes a true pillar of the biking world that mag was...
