After all the hassle I had with the clutch etc...I noticed something.  There is a little spring that helps return the arm back to position.
It's not a very strong spring, but believe it or not with out it, the weight of the cable (I probably had it adjusted too tight anyway)
would put just the slightest amount of pressure on the plates etc causing a slight drag.   I can find neutral now.

Thanks fellas.  Now I can ride a while before I blow it apart and start painting things.
Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.

Glad to see you got things figured out. These bikes aren't so intimidating to deal with once you start to get into them. May seem complex and frustrating at first, but with a little skill and luck you should be able to get them dialed into what turns out to be a very dependable fast machine.
