Carb Float Support Repair
« on: April 11, 2005, 04:19:38 PM »
Spring is finally here in Wisconsin and it's time to get the bikes out and running.  I found a '73 CB 350 this winter for my wife to play with.  Its in fair condition and has not been started for some years.  I think it will be worth resurecting.  (Brought a '75 CB 750SS back to life 4 years ago.)  I am slowly going throught the usual clean-up before even tring to start the engine.  I got into trouble when I removed the carbs to find the brass brackets on the floats corroded and frozen solid.  I was able to free and clean up the rest of the carbs with out too much trouble.  While freeing the floats, I used too much force and snapped off one of the small aluminum towers which supports the float pins.  Now that all is moving freely and is clean inside and out I am attempting to make the repair to the tower using JB Weld.  Has any one else been this careless?  Do you think the JB Weld hold?  Any opinions or suggestions would be welcome.  I woild prefer to  make a repair rather than replace the carb if possible.  I always try to first rebuild, repair and restore.  I can always find new or replacement parts on line but where is the pride and satisfaction in that?
Thanx for listening,
Larry

Will Bat man escape from the evil Joker? Will the rope hold long enough to provide a way out? He He just kidding. In my experience, JB Weld will hold just about anything. Right now it is holding together the cracked head of my 50 horse outboard, various pipes and hoses on my jeep, sealing the gas tank on my jeep.  ;) And I believe holding a handle on a vacuum cleaner somewhere around here. So my advice is, JB Weld it up, If all is lost still, buy a new one, no pride lost.

P.S. JB Weld is like the force in Star Wars, It has a dark tube and a light tube, and it holds the universe together. (same applies with duct tape)

Thanks for the opinion.  I looks as though it's going to work.
