Drive Chain Types

Can anyone explain how 'sealed' and 'non-sealed' drive chains differ from  the O-ring chains that I'm familiar with?  These types of chains are offered by Dennis Kirk.  TIA.

O-ring and X-ring are sealed chains , Standard and  Heavy Duty Standard are non-sealed.

Ok, I'm bringing this one out of the closet and dusting it off......

I'm broke and can't afford a $80 x-ring chain so Dennis Kirk is offering up a 'non-sealed' chain for under $30. Should I wait until I collect enough change from under the couch cushions to buy the $80 x-ring chain or would a $30 non-sealed chain work for my 76 550?

What's the difference between these chains besides the obvious 'sealed vs. non sealed argument'? For example, are they different widths? Does one chain make the bike go faster than the other? If I buy the non-sealed chain will it break free and wrap itself around my ankle? Will an x-ring chain allow my bike to fly?

An o-ring or x-ring chain could very likely wear a hole in the side of the engine case on your 550.  Stick with a standard chain if you'd rather not risk it.

The oring and xring chains have the advantage of removing unwanted metal from the side of your engine case due to their extra width, when installed on the average 550.

Well, I currently have an o-ring chain that has worn a groove in the side of the engine. I just didn't know if it would be advantageous to buy a x-ring over a standard non-sealed chain. It sounds like I'll do just fine with a non-sealed chain.
