Rub a drop of oil onto the o-ring with your fingers before installing. This will keep the o-ring from binding up and twisting when you tighten, BUT it can make it easier to over-tighten because there's less friction. Basically treat it like an oil filter on a car, turn it down until the o-ring makes contact with the surfaces, then turn a bit more to tighten, less than one turn.
