Hey guys my name is Ryland and I am new to the forum.  Currently I have 2 k5 750's with titles that I picked up for $500.  I plan on getting the one in better shape running and sell off the other when I am done.  These are my first bikes and I hope that I can use the wealth of knowledge available here to do so.

Also on I side note if anybody can tell me the correct way to test an ignition switch it would be greatly appreciated.  Do I check for continuity in the wires on both sides of where it connects to the main harness?  Sorry if the info is already available here I just could not find the answer I was looking for using the search.

Thanks guys,
Ryland

Welcome Badbeard, I use a test light if I'm unsure of the power wires, works for us chickens bwalk bwalk. ;D
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Hey Badbeard, welcome to the forums. As for the ignition switch, there are some schematics available here. I know where to find some for the '77 CB750k, but not for the K5 at the moment. I'll grep about later to see if I can find one for the k5's. By the way, what year are your bikes?

As for searching, I never find the search tool on PHP-based forums, as this one is, of much use. I use google instead to search the site. Use "site:forums.sohc4.net" in the search, and it'll just search this site/forums, as in googling:

"site:forums.sohc4.net something to search for"

The Electrics FAQ doesn't have links to schematics, but it does have lots of other very useful information, especially if you are relatively new to electrical troubleshooting.

[edit]By the way, we've got a bunch of riders from down your way. What part of Virginia are you in? You might want to check out the regional boards if you want to hook up with other riders your way.

Thanks for the welcome guys.  I sorted out the ignition using a test light.

burmashave:  Good call on the search.  I will try that next time when doing research.  By the way the bike are 75's

Badbeard,

Old Man Honda has an archive of schematics for old Honda motorcycles:

http://oldmanhonda.com/MC/WiringDiagrams/MCwiring.php#class

The link for the K3-K7 series is near the bottom.

It looks as if the switch should be pretty straight forward to test. The light blue boxes, center bottom, show what the connections should be for the three positions (off, position 1, position 2). To test it this way, you'll need to pull the switch, and you'll need a multimeter. The Electrics FAQ has good information about testing.

There may be an easier way to do this, but that's the way I would test it.

HTH,

It is a Spirit of America Eagle model from the early to mid '70's.

I will be down for riding really soon, just sorting my carbs a bit before mine can go beyond my neighborhood. Tomorrow I will try to make it the 3-4 miles to my nearest honda shop (manassas honda) to show the parts counter dude who hooked me up with most of what I needed to build it up. Wish me luck....

That link is pretty funny.  Somehow I ended up with the name Moose.  I think I will go with it.

That would be pretty cool if we got a local get together going.  All I have to do is get the bike on the road.  Carbs are going back on tonight.   I'm crossing my fingers.
