Rear shock set... where to get 400lb + set at??
« on: May 31, 2008, 03:44:10 PM »
I had some after market 12.5" Dixie shock set that was said to be for my 73 cb750. Well come to find out after I had my lady on back we kept bottoming out. When I took it back into the shop they tell me that the shocks are only good for about 250bs. They have a problem finding a set that will go with this bike.

Who sells a good set of aftermarket 12.5" that can withstand appr 400lbs? I'm wanting the 12.5" as opposed to the 13" stock so I can have the cafe look without the backend up as high. I know it doesn't sound like much, but is noticable.

Thanks for any help and advice in advance.

Tony

I use to have them, but if you look at your pic you'll see after time that you springs begin to bow. Eventually they will become trash and no good. The angle is too stressful on the load of your shockset even though it looks ok for the moment.

Over time you will definately notice a difference. Any REPUTABLE shop should tell you this.

Not trying to say it doesn't look nice, but looking for SAFE, nice looking, efficient set up.

Yea... I would suggest getting rid of the laybacks. Like I said looks nice, but would hate to see them going out on you while you are riding.

Needless to say, wouldn't be a pretty site.

Progressive makes some pretty damned heavy duty shocks if you need them. No problem riding two up on the HD shocks.
No.

Are they 13" ? I was wanting the lower sitting ride, but if I can't find a 12.5" or a 12" then looks like I'll have to go to 13's.

I had seen the 12 series HD from progressive. They look nice, black and chrome is kinda what I'm looking for too. Springs and shocks come seperate, right? They definately cost a few bucks. I guess you get what you pay for sometimes though.

You can order the 12 series from, say, z1, preassembled, if you like.
Pricey, yes. Good, yes.
No.

So will the back end be hicked up with the 13" performance hd's?? Trying to keep the bike as level as I can as you can see from my pic.
