N00b in Il CB550F
« on: June 01, 2008, 11:33:45 AM »
Hey all, I'm new to the forum, and to motorcycles, so I'll likely have lots of questions. I'm a master auto mechanic, so I know the basics and am mechanically inclined. My bike is a 1976 CB550f that the previous owner had in a barn for several years. Bought it cheap, got it running with just a few hours of tinkering and less than $25 in parts. I'm planning to do a cheapish cafe racer type project, but getting it running right (needs some carb adjustments still) and riding it are my big priorities for now.

Welcome and congratulations fellow 550 owner! I think you'll like it here in SOHC Land.

Why people buy or own bikes and leave them for years in sheds/barns is beyond me.
She looks a bit rough from all that neglect mate but that's just what we like here on SOHC, fiddling and tweeking is half the fun.
Welcome and best luck with your rebuild..........Hush.
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Thanks to all. I already do like it here. You guys definitely seem more helpful and supportive to each other than the folks on the auto forums that I'm used to.
The bike is rough, but i would want to repaint, replace bars, etc, etc... with any bike (unless it was a Thruxton or a Bugatti)
So I'm happy to have bought a bike that's nearly complete, a model I wanted (was looking for any cb 400-650), and runs for less than $350. It'll need a bunch of work, but that's half the fun. ;D
