Trip to Wellsboro, PA
« on: June 14, 2008, 09:34:06 AM »
I was talking to the touring guys at work the other day and one of them brought up the grand canyon. Not the real one, there is another one here in PA near a town called Wellsboro.
I had just levered some new BT 45s on the 350F and wanted to give them a test ride so why not check it out. I pulled up mapquest which said Wellsboro is about 150 miles away. I figured I could find the giant hole when I got there.

Turns out there really is a gigantic hold up there. Here are some pics of the ride and the hole.

On the way up there

Here was a nice scenic overlook right outside of Towanda PA

Taking a rest

I finally show up in Wellsboro and see this sign

I must be getting close

There were sporadic signage telling where I was supposed to be going. After riding aimlessly a while, I found this

Looks good, let's go

Scenic beaver showing me where to go

Found it. Hot and hazy didn't make for great photography but it was still quite pretty.

Here are some raptors catching the thermals, pretty

Another lookout across the canyon. I couldn't figure out how to get over there though.

After this, I packed it up and headed home. Total mileage for the trip was somewhere around 280.

I wish I could have taken more pics of the ride itself. There was some beautiful scenery. I was afraid of dropping my camera though. I have to work out some kind of bar mount or something.

Nine trip and pics, Fixa.
How much gas did you use for your 280 odd miles?

I used 5.1 gallons of gas and the bike averaged 49.6 MPG which is pretty good considering it was kinda struggling up those long climbs. I had to shift into fourth to hold 60mph quite a few times.
All told I spent around $30 for fuel, a bagel and an iced coffee I bought along the way. Not a bad price for a nice day out on the road.
