I didn't realise that US MILES were different as well!
« on: May 30, 2008, 02:04:20 AM »
We've often had discussions about the difference between an Imperial Gallon and a US Gallon and the effect that this has on mpg figures (amongst other things).

Now I see that the US mile is actually longer than an "international" mile (but not by much)

0.0106 ft is the difference.

I don't want it to go like a motorcycle, I want it to go like a rocket!

So that's why US domestic cars go further to a gallon of fuel.

That's about 40mm

This is why cars in the US are manufactured larger and so over powered, we have more millimeters to cover. ;D

There is also the "Country Mile" which is even longer. Then of course we have the NY minute.

As near as I can tell, a (country) mile in a NY minute is about 3600+ MPH or mach 4.68 at sea level.   :o

Depends on what you're tracking.  An alien aircraft, maybe, an SOHC, only with a REALLY hot cam, 2100 overbore kit (I used an old set of paint cans for the pistons on mine), and a flux capacitor.  I can send you the blueprints for $19.95.  If you order now I'll throw in a set of titanium testes made specifically for this monster of a machine for free.  That's a $10,000,000 dollar value for only $19.95.  Call now, quantities are limited.  ;D

....and as was so cleverly demonstrated in 'Long Way Down', water goes down the plughole in one direction in the northern hemisphere and the other in the southern hemisphere.

Anyone ponder Act miles vs Orig miles?  What if some of those miles were actually kilometers?  How could you tell?  Will it really make a difference on resale?

Altitude affects the distance, too. For instance, when climbing a Fourteener here in Colorado, the last 2 miles are MUCH longer than the first two.  ;D

Water is even more expensive, hereabouts. So much for running a car on water, man. (To quote Hyde on the '70s Show.)
