voice of reason

in struggling for a fact based debate, i often find myself defending democrats on this forum, although i am not one.  one of my favorite writers is very much republican and i think a lot of people on this forum would also like his work.  he is a truly independent voice with real knowledge of how the federal government works.

please enjoy thunderbear: http://www.workingnet.com/thunderbear/232.html

the first 231 issues were not online, but this is an interesting point to jump in.

Okay, I just read the first article, proposing that the NPS should have decided the 2000 election.  Odd.  Some suppositions I don't agree with.

The NPS is typically conservative?  I realize that law enforcement is typically conservative, and a majority of the NPS ranks are law enforcement trained, but the 2 that I've gotten to know don't come close to fitting his description.  It's been my observation that conservatives aren't that interested in conserving our resources or the land where these resources reside.  After all, wasn't it the Bush administration that added "mining" to the list of approved activities(like hiking,camping...) one can do in our National Parks?

And while I'm not opposed to a "co-presidency", I'd like to think that Lewis and Clark, while different from each other, had considerably more in common with each other than Bush and Gore.  I will agree that a 4 year boat trip with Bush and Gore is a terrifying thought.
Go metric, every inch of the way!

maybe i was wrong about 232 being a good place to jump in.

i hope you can keep reading.  PJ Ryan considers himself a "Bull-Moose republican."  He was happy when bush was elected because he thought he was a "Closet Bull-Moose."  because of the ranching and all.  He had the open-mindedness and humility to admit he was wrong about this when it became clear that bush is what Ryan refers to as a "Greed-Head" republican.

Along the way Thunderbear, a ten foot beer drinking winged bear makes appearances and observations that make for very compelling reading and satire.

Skip to a later issue if it helps, but try and keep reading and you will find that a lot of the assumptions you are making about  Ryan will be challenged.
