Caberg helmets-- any opinions good or bad?
« on: June 01, 2008, 03:08:50 PM »
I was hanging out with my sister in Columbus this weekend when we found Iron Pony wherein I managed to kill 3 hours shopping.  ;D

They had a bunch of closeouts on helmets so I picked a up a half helmet just to have a spare around, but I saw this sweet Caberg.  I believe it was a Solo 104 or something like that.  They were blowing them out for $78!!!  It has a flip down sun visor too.  Problem was the fitment.  I wear an XL HJC CL-14 but the XXL Caberg was too tight!  I was almost temped to force the issue and just buy it hoping it would eventually break in, but I didn't.

Anybody have one?

Hmm, looks like there are some minor issues with optics but otherwise a good lid.  Darn it.  At the store I tried on a HJC FS-10 and it didn't fit that well either.  I need to find a way to make my cranium smaller...

They are very popular in Europe (after all Caberg is a Belgian brand I believe) but they aren't considered "top" brand. It is a brand though, but you wont see it in racing.

Good helmets, though. Had one once, and had good experiences.

What size of FS-10 did you try on? Usually the HJCs are the easiest to fit to odd shaped heads...or at least thats what i found when i have tried on helmets in the past..in some my forehead would have a lot of pressure against it and in others they would be comfortable up top while my cheeks would be getting squashed..The two helmets i have a Bell Lynx modular and my newer HJC FS-10 have been the best fitting helmets i have owned..the HJC is a lil more comfortable then the bell though..

I have  Caberg Trip (I think it's called Rhyno maybe in the States?) it is a flip front helmet with internal sunvisor. I got it quite cheap. They are more of a budget brand than say Shoei arai etc, but they're decent for the cash.

It was an XL.  I was surprised that it didn't fit as well as my CL-14.  But the XXL Caberg was super-tight--my cheeks and ears were squashed, I could feel the shell on the crown of my head, and there was no room on the temples for my glasses.
